Dan Forrest: You Are the Music: SATB: Vocal Score

The lyrics of Charles Wesley are found in almost every denominational hymnal. This anthem is scored for mixed voices with either organ or piano. Methodists might use the piece on heritage Sunday but the work would also make a fine mother's day (festival of the Christian home) anthem or for peace and justice Sunday. The lovely lyrical lines and close connection to the text are hallmarks of Dan Forrest's musical expression.

From the pen of Dan Forrest comes the first Jubal House publication Te Deum. Dan's three-movement setting is moving and inspiring. For fans of Dan Forrest this will be a must have.

This major work is a seven-movement setting of Psalm 100 predominantly in Latin. Inserted within the work are interjections of the text 'Shout to the Lord all ye lands!' in eight different languages. The work may be performed entirely by an SATB choir or some or all of the treble choir options in the treble part may be used along with the SATB choir. Part-dominant rehearsal videos and pronunciation guides for the languages are available for free on the composer's website. There are three different orchestrations of the work available ranging from a large orchestration to a nine-instrument chamber version. This piece was commissioned by the IndianapolisChildren's Chorus to honor its distinguished conductor of 30 years Henry Leck. Commissioned by the Hickory NC Choral Society for their 35th anniversary season Dan Forrest's Requiem For The Living is scored for mixed choir with solos for boy soprano and/or mezzo-soprano soprano & tenor. The instrumentation is available for large orchestra or chamber ensemble. Combining both liturgical and non-liturgical texts in some cases the traditional texts are slightly re-arranged for contextual emphasis. This powerful five movement work projects a wide range of meaningful expression from a biting essay on the vanity and pain of existence to a plea for mercy and a celebration of eternal light. This is a lovely setting of the John 1:14 text (the Word became flesh and dwelt among us) scored for mixed chorus (divisi) with piano. You may be familiar with the settings by Hassler or Lasso but you will find the melodic and harmonic treatment by Dan Forrest fresh and appropriate. Try it for Advent/Christmas!

The text for this piece combines Psalm 96:1 (both in English and in Latin) with the words of Charles Anthony Silvestri. Scored for mixed chorus and piano the festival work would be successful with high school college/university community choruses or even some church groups. The combination of Silvestri and Forrest is always amazing!

Dan Forrest understands the drama that can be created in music. This seven minute work known to almost all Americans (Navy Hymn) is scored for mixed chorus (divisi) with keyboard or orchestra and optional audience participation. Try it on July 4!

Dan Forrest's arrangement of the Welsh tune and the Fosdick text is masterful. Here set for mixed chorus with optional congregation and organ accompaniment by brass quintet and timpani is also a possibility. Great for Pentecost!

This piece belongs in every church choir library. Based on a 17th century German tune Dan Forrest performs his magic and provides us with a relatively simple arrangement for mixed chorus with piano or organ. This would be excellent for the Sunday following Easter.

Written in memory of the 2011 Japanese tsunami victims on a text by Anthony Silvestri this piece is scored for mixed chorus with piano and may be sung in either English or Japanese. Combining elements of both western and Japanese musical traditions use the piece in any setting to promote international unity and good will.
