Max Regers Easter Motet was probably composed in October 1911 as a commission for the Chorbuch fur die Kirchenchore Sachsens [Choirbook for the Church Choirs of Saxony], which was published by Breitkopf & Hartel in 1912. Hence, the piece was composed around the time Reger took up his position as kapellmeister of the orchestra at the court of Meiningen, a position he had deeply desired. In this work, Reger sets a baroque text from the Himmlische Lieder [Celestial Songs] of 1641 by Johann Rist (1606-1667) to music for five-part choir a cappella. These lyrics were not found in the hymnbook of the regional church of Saxony, but in others, such as Hanover.

This second part-volume contains mixed choruses composed by Reger between 1904 and 1914. Most are sacred works, including the great motets op. 110 (Mein Odem ist schwach, Ach Herr, strafe mich nicht!, O Tod, wie bitter bist du), the Acht geistliche Gesange (Eight Sacred Songs) op. 138, and the fragmentary Vater unser. Functional liturgical music is represented with the Easter motet Lasset uns den Herren preisen, the Vier Kirchengesange (Four Church Songs) and the English-language Responsories. With the secular works, the Zwolf Chore aus dem Volksliederbuch (Twelve Choruses from the Volksliederbuch) form a substantial portion, flanked by Reger's setting of Good Night written for a school book, and the Abschiedslied for Fritz Stein.
In January 2008 the Max-Reger-Institut (MRI) in Karlsruhe began publishing a scholarly-critical edition of the works of Reger (RWA). As a Hybrid Edition it is exploring new approaches in editorial techniques. For the first time, in this edition the digital component for this volume will no longer be supplied on a data storage device, but published in an online portal.

Hermann Schroeder (1904-1984) is one of the most important composers of Catholic church music in the 20th century. Apart from more than 100 organ works and masses, he also wrote numerous motets. The present four-part motet Freu dich, du werte Christenheit for mixed a cappella choir (SATB) was written in 1975. This old Resurrection song from the 16th century is based on a setting by the Franco-Flemish composer Johannes des Cleve (around 1529-1582) which has been skillfully transferred by Schroeder to the modern age with subtle harmonies. The tenor voice sings the cantus firmus and is embedded in archaic-seeming sounds typical of Schroeder by the other voices. This three-verse Resurrection song of about five minutes is perfect for church services at Easter.

The unusual thing about this sentimental four-voice Christmas motet is its character as a choral arrangement: In the middle section the base intones parts of the fourth verse of the song In dulci jubilo, while the three upper voices play around with the melody in small note-values and with this motet's characteristic syncopated rhythm in 3.
