The first volume of the Complete Flute Method by Giuseppe Gariboldi this edition has been reviewed and edited by Jan Merry. The finger positions articulations and breathing have been added to the method where necessary as well as some helpful advice has been included. This particularly melodic method starts with some theory basics and covers all beginner needs such as scales rhythms and trills among others using some small studies or exercises. Even though most of the Flute now uses the Boëhm method the book has kept the old eight?key Flute tablatures. This volume of Complete FluteMethod is completed by a second volume also available at Alphonse Leduc. Giuseppe Gariboldi (1833-1905) is an Italian flautist and composer who wrote numerous pieces for Flute. Most of his study books are still used to teach the Flute including '20 Little studies Op. 132' or 'Daily exercises Op. 89'.

The French composer and bassoonist François René Gebauer (1773-1845) and his three brothers was closely tied to the history of French military music and the beginnings of the Conservatoire de Musique. As was customary at that time, the woodwind players also had complete command over other woodwind instruments, and therefore it comes as no surprise that Gebauer wrote a flute method- perhaps for his younger brother- which was soon followed by duos as well. 60 Methodical Lessons, first published in 1798, are entirely in the tradition of the French methods (Devienne, Hugot, etc.). Gebauer chose the form of duet and formulated headings for each exercise which make his idea of methodical steps clear: After elementary exercises in the beginning, the second half focusses on the development of the playing skills and an increasing understanding of music. The exercises cover a wide range from sound exercises via articulation and rhythm exercises to ornaments. A varied addition to the beginner's repertoire.

Par SHERIDON STOKES. Unlike many flute books which give long series of exercises, but no instruction on how to play the flute, the Illustrated Method for Flute uses the resources of language, illustration, and photography to help you to learn to play the flute quickly and successfully. It is based not only on the musical and teaching experience of its authors, but also on current research in the physics of sound production in the flute and physiological and anatomical aspects of flute playing. Great care was taken to carefully describe the workings of the muscles, the breathing aperture, the acoustical principles, and the common phenomena (such as vibrato) associated with the flute. The Illustrated Method For Flute also includes five brilliantly written etudes and a fingering chart for easy reference. / Niveau : Débutant / All Styles - Methods / Méthode / Flûte Traversière

Written by the French flautist and composer Marcel Moyse The Beginner Flautist is a method for Flute beginners. Created as a supplement for other existing methods such as Taffanel-Gaubert Gariboldi or Remusat The Beginner Flautist works as an introductory ABC and provides the beginner with preliminary exercises. These 26 pages consist of thirteen lessons in two pages the first one to learn the technique and to develop a good sonority and the second to progress with these. If the player encounters difficulties with tempo or breathing for example they could work on the first page of eachlesson and come back later on the second ones once more technique has been acquired. Considered as a maestro by some musicians Marcel Moyse (1889-1984) has composed many Flute methods and exercise books that are also published by Alphonse Leduc such as 'Gammes et Arpèges' (1933) 'De la Sonorité' (1934) and 'Mécanisme-Chromatisme' (1927). PAUL WETZGER (1870-1937) was a German flutist composer born in Dahme near Lübeck. At a young age he took violin lessons from the local music director later switching to flute. By 15 years of age Wetzger had played his first concert in the main church of Dahmen and was second flutist of the municipal orchestra. He later became solo flutist with the municipal orchestra of Essen and taught at the Essen conservatory. He wrote numerous pieces for flute and several chamber music works also editing works by the French composer/flutist Jules Demersseman. Wetzger's Am Waldesbach (By the Forest Brook) ideally for flute and orchestra or piano was a staple of celebrated flutistMarcel Moyse recorded by him in 1935 on the French Columbia label. Since then it has become a favorite in the flute teaching repertory perhaps most notably included Toshio Takahashi's famous Suzuki Flute Method. This Southern Music edition faithfully captures this classic piece as performed by living legend of the flute Sir James Galway.

A fresh approach-Flute Sight-Reading 1 aims to establish good practice and provide an early introduction to the essential skill of sight-reading. Sight-reading in some form should become a regular part of a student's routine each time they get out the flute and this book aims to establish the habit early in a student’s learning process. There are 8 sections which in a logical sequence gradually introduce new notes rhythms articulations dynamics and Italian terms - much as you would find in a beginner's flute method. The emphasis is on providing idiomatic tunes and structures rather than sterile sight-reading exercises. Each section contains several solo examples beginning withonly three notes and concludes with duets and accompanied pieces allowing the student to gain experience of sight-reading within the context of ensemble playing.

Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach's Sonata in A minor for solo Flute constitutes a count...(+)
Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach's Sonata in A minor for solo Flute constitutes a counterpart to the partita of his father Johann Sebastian in the same key. Created in 1747 but unpublished until 1763 it heralds the sentimental style of a new era compared to the ca. 30 years older work of his father. The edition is based on the first edition which is hidden among Piano works by C. Ph. E. Bach and other composers in the anthology 'Musikalisches Mancherley'. A separate edition also published in 1763 proved to be an offspring of the first edition with identical musical text and could be eliminated as source for the edition. But the edition wasalso based on a late 18th-century copy from the Giedde Collection in Copenhagen which is of great significance to the Flute literature. Although it also seems to go back to the first edition it nevertheless turns out to be a contemporary corrective to deficiencies of the first edition in some passages. The practical performance notes of the Kuijken pupil Susanne Schrage not only come close to the musical text by means of the Flute method of Bach's Berlin fellow composer Johann Joachim Quantz but also analyse relevant chapters of 'Versuch über die wahre Art das Clavier zu spielen' by C. Ph. E. Bach himself thus providing interpretational aids right from the composer's perspective.
