This delightful new composition takes its inspiration from the classic French swash buckling tale of Cyrano de Bergerac and his fight to win the love of the beautiful maiden Roxane. The subject was a perfect departure point for composing a symphonic poem with a variety of musical aspects reflecting the story. Lyricism (the theme of Roxane), dramatic episodes, as well as Debussy-inspired impressionist moments are some of the elements that give the band and its conductor the chance to expose themselves as a versatile ensemble being able to create colour, to sing and to play like virtuosi. This work is sure to become a standard item in the concert band repertoire.

This arrangement of the popular Polovtsian Dances by Russian composer Borodin contains seven dances from the original manuscript, some of which have been used in the musical Kismet, as well as being performed by such famous names as Tony Bennett and Bing Crosby. Includes a solo for snare drum!

This work's title comes from DM Thomas's dramatic poem on an imagined episode in the life of Cleopatra. Cleopatra offers any three men from her royal court a night of unbridled passion, in return for which they must forfeit their lives the next morning. Three men step forward, the last of which is the son she had by her brother Ptolemy, whom she gave away at birth. Unaware that Cleopatra is his mother, he gives her wine laced with mandragora and makes his escape before daybreak. The grisly tale provided the composer many opportunities for dramatic characterisation. The use of a narrator necessitated an episodic structure in which the music captures the atmosphere suggested by the text, and mirrors the different moods as the journey unfolds and the three characters live out their different fates. The title Deadly Pleasures was suggested by the content of D.M. Variations on a Double is a real musical leviathan: almost an hour long, it is a sound-monstrosity that makes exceptional demands of the performers, and is the product of an unusual degree of fusion of the clarinet with the piano. Composed in 2005 for Csaba Klenyan and Gabor Csalog, the work interprets the meaning of the musical +double+ in an unconventional way: in it there is not a union of two independent instrumental characters, each with its individual identity - as in a grandiose sonata; instead, its artistic form tends in exactly the opposite direction. A single, monodically conceived unit of musical material passes over and over again through the doubling; they do not form two parts, yet do not unite in unison, but present the split face of a single endless - fragmented and episodic - monologue, like Siamese twins. Beware, this is only for the musically mature!
