6 Etudes (flute Solo)

A logical and thoughtful addition to the previously published 24 Etudes Op. 15 of Joachim Andersen edited by Carol Wincenc and Bryan Wagorn the Op. 33 set of 24 Etudes explores and solidifies the rudimentary building blocks found in Andersen's earlier opus. In this present edition Professor Carol Wincenc and Bryan Wagorn continued in the tradition of Marcel Moyse a pivotal mentor of Professor Wincenc. As a young boy Moyse played for Andersen himself. In lessons Moyse would accompany the student in these etudesby creating a counterpoint to the original study often vocally improvising melodies and or lyrics. This edition contains a flute 2 part with counterpointinspired by Moyse.

Theobald Boehm was a goldsmith and inventor of the Boehm flute (1847). He was also an engineer, composer, industrialist, and the director of the Bavarian steel works. In addition, he was the solo flutist of the Bavarian State Opera, and a well-known soloist and teacher. He played many of his own compositions on the numerous tours he undertook in his lifetime. In writing these short pieces he gave us 24 miniature gems incorporating the difficulties we face daily while playing the flute. These études require a great deal of work but if practiced diligently you will acquire a great technique over the entire flute. This edition is edited by flute legend, Sir James Galway, complete with his phrasing and expression marks, and performance tips for each etude.

Continuing in the tradition of previous publications in the Classics series: Classic Solos and Classic Duets, Mary Karen Clardy has selected 24 of the most significant standard études from Carl Joachim Andersen's op. 21, 30, 33, 37 and 41, Antoine Benoit Tranquille Berbiguier's Studies and Ernesto Köhler's Romantic Études op. 66. Performance notes, composers' biographies and a glossary of terms are included providing helpful historical background to the pieces. An optional second flute part has been composed for each étude providing opportunities for the teacher or another player to support and reinforce phrasing, rhythm, tone quality, intonation and style. pour la Flûte-Having studied the Flute with virtuosos Paul Taffanel Adolphe Hennebains and Philippe Gaubert at the Paris Conservatoire Marcel Moyse (1889-1984) soon became a virtuoso of the instrument himself. Etudes Et Exercices Techniques For Flute was the first of many popular study books from the renowned flautist. During his career Moyse frequently played solo Flute with many orchestras including performing the main concertos of the repertory. As well as performing and composing Moyse was responsible for the training of a brilliant generation of flautists at the Paris Conservatoire. Following WWI the composer moved to theUnited States where he continued to perform compose and teach. It is during his time in the USA that Moyse composed his extensive number of instructive books on instrumental technique including Etudes Et Exercices Techniques which today remain universally accepted and popular.
