In this work the composer portrays what he sees as the typical characteristics of youth, his young daughter being a source of inspiration. Fairfield Fanfare (expanded version) by Roxanna Panufnik is a 4-minute work for youth and mixed choirs, brass band and orchestra. Originally commissioned to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Fairfield Halls, Croydon in 2012, the opening chords are based on all the alphabetic note names from FA-ir-F(#)-i-E-l-D, heralding a flourishing section of hustle and bustle that is the city of Croydon today. This expanded version includes brass band and choirs, with a setting of the text from Psalm 127.
The expanded version was commissioned by the London Mozart Players, who premiered the piece on 30 June 2016 at Fairfield Halls, Croydon.

Adler's new Fanfare was composed in the Summer of 2008 for the Cincinnati University Youth Wind Ensemble, and premiered in March 2010 by that ensemble under the direction of Dr. Ann Porter. The majestic opening gives way to an extended interplay, which the composer has marked as happy and bouncy. Timpani is used sparingly, adding punctuation throughout, joining the ensemble for a rousing finale. For advanced performers.

A flashback is an interesting psychological phenomenon: a seemingly random trigger can bring back long-forgotten memories from the subconscious mind. The composer underwent a similar experience before writing this piece. He was asked to write a piece for The National Youth Fanfare Band in the Netherlands, one which he heard perform many years ago. All of a sudden he remembered Deep Harmony, a piece frequently programmed back then. He used his own flashback-experience as an inspiration to weave an old English hymn into his new composition, much like a musical flashback.
