Have you ever yearned to perform a whole bunch of great piccolo orchestral excerpts all in one concert, programming the music yourself, without waiting through the tacet movements, and without a loud brass section behind you? Julia Grenfell’s PICCOLO RIDICOLO is a beautifully theatrical medley of favorite orchestral solos from Tchaikovsky to Beethoven to Ravel, scored for piccolo trio. The three players rotate equally between the lead part and the accompaniment to share the fun (and terror). The 9-minute work celebrates 10 favorite piccolo highlights, and more!.The prototype for Piccolo Ridicolo was first created for a joint piccolo recital at the Australian Flute Festival in Brisbane, July 2017. The recital was performed by the three piccoloists from the Sydney, Melbourne and Adelaide Symphony Orchestras: Rosamund Plummer (SSO), Andrew Macleod (MSO), and me (ASO).When searching for a final piece that we could all play together as a trio, I came up a little short. Who would have guessed there would be so little repertoire for three piccolos? Thus the idea for Piccolo Ridicolo was born – a celebratory and humorous collaboration for three piccolos, with much debt and apologies owed to Rossini, Beethoven, Tchaikovsky, and more.Thank you Andrew and Rose for being my first guinea pigs, my ASO flute colleagues for various road tests, my sister Maria Grenfell for her initial typesetting, and my mentor Leone Buyse for encouraging me to seek publication of the piece.

This book and extensive online audio recording is intended to be a tune repertoire book. It includes over 100 Old-Time festival favorites. Some are cliche, others unusual, some easy, some difficult. The book contains 2 lines of tablature (one basic and one advanced) as well as standard notation and suggested chords. The basic version should be playable by those with general clawhammer skills. The advanced version will require more time and finesse as it is more ornamental (often more than just melodic) and may include less than intuitive ways of playing some passages. Includes access to online audio.

NFMC 2016-2020 Federation Festivals Bulletin selection for Primary II-III. When they originated, folk songs were passed along from one generation to another without written music. Many times they were sung unaccompanied. The melody of a simple accompaniment may also have been played on fiddle, guitar, banjo or whatever instrument was available. Over time, different performers made little changes in both melody and words. In some instances, there are now six or more variations of the same song. The tunes and lyrics in this book may be a little different than what is familiar to the teacher or student. Changes to music or words may certainly be made; however it is recommended that any revised notes and lyrics be written on the pages where they are used. Duet accompaniments offer many possibilities for recitals and school events. The duets help provide valuable rhythmic training and ensemble experience. The duets are recommended for use at home as well as at the lesson. This volume includes 11 folk favorites: Bear Went over the Mountain * Bingo * Clementine * Goodbye Old Paint * John Jacob Jingleheimer Schmidt * She'll Be Comin' 'Round the Mountain * Shoo Fly * Skip to My Lou * and more.
