Crescent Moon is a festive overture composed by Jan Van der Roost and was commissioned by a Japanese wind band. The piece begins solemnly in the middle register but gradually becomes brighter and more brilliant as the moon rises in the sky and begins to give more light. After this somewhat stately introduction, a virtuoso allegro emerges, displaying technical prowess in all registers, before the piece culminates with a joyful mood of optimism. An ideal concert opener, Crescent Moon will fill your ears with joy and happiness!

Het jaar 2011... Voor Japan een jaar van tragedie en verdriet. Maar net zoals de maan iedere nacht weer opkomt en licht in de duisternis brengt, zal ook Japan weer herrijzen en ooit het licht weer zien. Muziek kan daarbij een rolspelen en brengt ons vreugde en geluk. Met Crescent Moon benadrukt Jan Van der Roost de kracht ervan. Muziek is van een universele schoonheid en nodigt uit - ongeacht ras, cultuur of geloof - te genieten. Prachtig!

Crescent Moon ist eine festliche Ouvertüre, die Jan Van der Roost im Auftrag eines japanischen Blasorchesters schrieb. Das Stück beginnt langsam im mittleren Register, wird aber allmählich heller und strahlender - so wie der aufgehende Mond den Nachthimmel erhellt. Nach dieser eher majestätischen Einleitung tritt ein virtuoses Allegro hervor, das technische Finessen in allen Registern zum Vorschein bringt. Schließlich gipfelt das Stück in einer Atmosphäre der Freude und des Optimismus‘.

Crescent Moon débute de manière solennelle dans le registre moyen et se déploie progressivement en une orchestration plus brillante. Après cette introduction quelque peu grandiose, un allegro virtuose émerge, occasionnant des prouesses techniques dans tous les registres. Un climat d’optimisme joyeux domine ce mouvement - une ambiance très appropriée pour une occasion aux couleurs hautement festives. Il brano inizia in modo solenne nel registro medio per poi divenire gradualmente più intenso, quasi a simboleggiare la luna che, alzandosi in cielo, riesce a irradiare una forte luce sulla terra. Dopo un’introduzione maestosa, appare un virtuoso allegro che richiede doti tecniche in tutti i registri. Il finale porta a una conclusione di carattere gioioso e ottimista.

Also known as Prosa in Nativitáte Dómini or the Portugese Hymn, Adeste, Fideles has been used at Benediction at Christmastide in France and England since the end of the eighteenth century. It invites all the faithful to come to Bethlehem to worship the newborn Savious. Although more than forty different English translations were made, Oakeley's translation O Come, All Ye Faithful was the most preferred, with additional verses translated by W.T. Brooke. All in all, the hymn has been translated into at least 125 languages and is one of the most popular of all Christmas hymns.

Adeste, Fideles, das hier in einer festlichen Bearbeitung fu?r Blechbläserquintett und Orgel ad lib. vorliegt, wird schon seit dem Ende des 18. Jahrhunderts in Frankreich und England zur Segnung in der Weihnachtszeit verwendet. Das im deutschen Sprachraum als Herbei, o ihr Gläubigen bekannte Lied wurde au�erdem in u?ber 100 weitere Sprachen u?bersetzt und ist damit eines der beliebtesten Weihnachtslieder weltweit.

Lâ??hymne chrétienne Adeste Fideles [Adeste Fidelis] est également connue sous le nom de Prosa In Nativitáte Dómini ou encore Cantique portugais (parce quâ??il fut chanté dans la chapelle de l'ambassade du Portugal Londres). Depuis la fin du XVIIIe siècle, Adeste Fideles est chanté après la bénédiction de Noël dans de nombreuses églises françaises et anglaises. Enfin, certains historiens affirment quâ??Adeste Fideles aurait été écrit par un poète anonyme français sous le règne de Louis XIV.Quoiquâ??il en soit, il est communément reconnu que les strophes ont été écrites ou découvertes par lâ??Anglais John Francis Wade (vers 1710-1786) alors quâ??il travaillait en tant que chercheur et copiste Douai en France. La première version imprimée du cantique date des années 1740. Elle fut ensuite intégrée au recueil Cantus Diversipublié en 1751.Catholique la c, John Francis Wade fuit lâ??Angleterre en proie des persécutions religieuses. Vers 1731, il copiait des manuscrits de plain-chant au Collège dominicain de Borhem en Flandre. Plus tard, il sâ??installa Douai dans le Nord de la France, forteresse de la foi catholique, où le roi d'Espagne Philippe II avait fondé une université, en 1559. Wade gagnait sa vie « en copiant et vendant des manuscrits de plain-chant et dâ??autres ?uvres ». Il fut également professeur de latin et de musique sacrée. Highdays and Holidays was commissioned by the South Berks Concert Band to celebrate its 40th anniversary in 2016. The band rehearses in the village of Mortimer, which has a long and fascinating history dating back to, and beyond, the BronzeAge. Mortimer is famous for The Mortimer Revel, an annual event which was apparently a fairly rumbustious and sometimes violent affair. Highdays and Holidays seeks to capture some of this festive event in the form of an energeticoverture, which explores a variety of moods including the somewhat chaotic atmosphere of the Revel.

Highdays and Holidays is geschreven in opdracht van de South Berks Concert Band ter gelegenheid van hun veertigjarig bestaan in 2016. Het orkest repeteert in het Britse Mortimer, dat een lange, boeiende geschiedenis kent, die teruggaat totvoor het bronzen tijdperk. Mortimer staat bekend om The Mortimer Revel, een jaarlijks evenement dat kennelijk een vrij onstuimige en soms gewelddadige aangelegenheid was. Die Stadt ist für The Mortimer Revel“ bekannt, eine jährlich stattfindende Veranstaltung, die anscheinend eine ziemlich wilde und manchmal auch heftige Angelegenheit war. Highdays andHolidays versucht einiges von dieser festlichen Veranstaltung in Form einer energiegeladenen Ouvertüre, in der die unterschiedlichen Stimmungen und die teils chaotische Atmosphäre des Festes erkundet werden, darzustellen.

Les répétitions de l’orchestre d’harmonie ont lieu dans le village de Mortimer qui a une longue et fascinante histoire qui remonteavant l’ ge du Bronze. Ce village est connu pour le Mortimer Revel, un évènement annuel qui était apparemment une occasion plutôt bruyante et parfois même violente. Highdays and Holidays cherche reproduire l’esprit de cet évènementfestif dans une ouverture énergique qui explore une variété d’humeurs ainsi que l’atmosphère parfois chaotique du Revel.
