Zoltán Kodály s unaccompanied mixed choruses first appeared in print in 1943 as a collected volume published by the association Magyar Kórus. This collection contained twenty-five works. In 1951, the volume was released again in the author s edition, being expanded with eight new compositions, but without Els áldozás (First Communion). Reprint editions of this collection had been distributed by Editio Musica Budapest until 1972, when a commemorative extended edition of the mixed choruses was issued, edited by Lajos Bárdos. Until now, reprints of this collection with forty-five compositions have been circulated. Péter Erdei carefully compared the printed edition with themanuscripts of the works preserved at the Kodály Archives. As a result of his work, in 2011 we emended a number of misprints, including those that had been inherited since the earliest print. Seventy-five years after the first release, the time has come for Kodály s collected choral works for mixed voices to appear in a completely new, expanded edition. Our collection contains six compositions that were not included in earlier editions: Jövel, Szentlélek eristen (Come, Holy Spirit), Miatyánk (The Lord s Prayer), Miserere, Salló Pista, Semmit ne bánkódjál (Do Not Grieve), ejesztend t köszönt (A Christmas Carol). In addition, two versions - both equally authentic - are published of the work known under the title of Naphimnusz (Canticle of the Sun), due to earlier editions the new release comes with lyrics in Hebrew and English (Adoration), as well as Dénes Szed s Hungarian translation (Napének [Hymn of the Sun]). This is the most complete and most authentic edition of Kodály s mixed choruses to date it is printed in a slightly larger format than previous editions, and it contains new easily-legible music scores and an informative epilogue. Diese Ausgabe entstand unter der Mitwirkung von Lajos Bárdos.

The considerable and important musical production by Nicolò Paganini for violin and guitar is now increased to a small but significant degree with the publication of the Sei piccoli Valtz (the title is not the composer’s). They are brief but very pleasing pieces, in which it is easy to perceive the spirit with which the great Genoese musician wrote his short compositions. These are autograph compositions, where the instrumental indication (violin) is present only at the sixth. They could be considered almost ‘musical jottings’ found in two manuscript collections of music for guitar, the Ghiribizzi and the 37 Sonate, but which have never been transcribed and completed before now. Their musical structure is simple, as is found in this kind of composition, and is organised mostly in bipartite form, except for the Valtz n. 6 which it is tripartite (with the Minore and the Da Capo al Fine). It is most likely to be the violin part of compositions for violin and guitar, given the musical characteristics of the six pieces, similar to other music by Paganini such as the Sei Cantabili e Valtz dedicated to Camillo Sivori. It must not then be ruled out, given the numbering allocated by the composer to the first five Valtz, that they might even be the evidence of a ‘project’ which was perhaps never completed, or else finished and lost, of which in fact only these few pages remain.

Released in 2005, the album Once Around The Sun is the outcome of Joby Talbot's residency with Classic FM. During his year in residence, Talbot composed a new piece of music each month, scored for up to five instruments. The resulting twelve compositions were then premiered on Classic FM and were recorded on CD. April - The First Day Of Summer was the fourth piece to be composed and is scored here for solo piano.

These five part-songs were composed over ten years from 1903 to 1913, but only the first was published in the composer's lifetime. Bridge's early works - those written before the first World War - were more late Romantic in style, warmly expansive, than his mature works. These songs display Bridge's skill and craftsmanship.British composer Frank Bridge was active in the early decades of the 20th century and was a highly respected conductor, violist and teacher - his sole composition student having been Benjamin Britten. Britten honoured his former teacher in his work Variations on a Theme of Frank Bridge, based on a theme from one of Bridge's pieces for String quartet.

With the unusual combination Beethoven and organ music, this edition introduces fresh colors into the repertoire. Like almost all the great composers of Viennese classicism, Beethoven too wrote for the mechanical organ, an instrument which was very popular with the public in its day, controlled by a cylinder and equipped with organ pipes. His compositions for this instrument are included complete in this edition, carefully arranged for performance on a conventional organ. These extremely charming works are now available, suitable not only for concert use, but with their length of about two to six minutes, they are also suitable for church worship. The Grenadiermarsch is available for the first time in an arrangement for organ.

Bartók's Mikrokosmos has been one of the milestones in pedagogical piano repertoire for 80 years - and yet it is also far more than a classical piano primer. These 153 piano pieces, organized in ascending order of difficulty, engage not only with technical aspects of piano playing but also with the fundamentals of composition - from Imitation and Inversion, Ostinato, and Free Variations, concerning compositional technique, to mood pieces and pieces with programmatic ideas such as Notturno, Boating, From the Diary of a Fly, or the famous Six Dances in Bulgarian Rhythm. Mikrokosmos first appeared in 1940 in six volumes. Based on volume 40 of the Bartók CompleteEdition published in 2020(Z. 15040), the present Urtext edition offers the series gathered in three volumes. This edition includes Bartók's preface, exercises, and notes written for the first edition. Furthermore, it also features a preface and comments by the editor, which not only discuss the genesis and the compositional sources but also provide performers, teachers and pupils alike, with authentic and detailed information about Bartók's notation and the specific performing problems of Mikrokosmos.

Aside from being a great piece to program, this new chart has a wealth of ways built into it to help you teach blues form and improvisation. This composition is sequenced and developed through each 12-bar chorus using the six scale steps of the Bb blues scale as the foundation. The solo section opens up for any and all wind players to use the blues scale patterns from the first five choruses as the basis for their improvisation. However, this chart is a must have for every jazz director for the rhythm section parts alone! Each of these parts is designed for the individual instrument, and they will serve as resource guides for you and your students.

Hidden away in Gabrieli's Sacrae Symphoniae of 1597, among forty-five vocal compositions, lie sixteen works that make up one of the first great monuments of instrumental ensemble music; fourteen canzoni and two sonatas that surpass any of their genre at that time, and that were only rarely matched in the following decades, most often by Gabrieli himself. Gabrieli must be credited with many firsts in regard to the development of the canzona and sonata: he was the first to write for more than eight parts, and first to deploy his forces polychorally. He was first to contrast polyphonic and homophonic writing, and duple and triple meter, within the same piece, and was a pioneer in the use of tone colour - and specified instrumentation - for dramatic musical effect. Egon Kenton, in his Life and Works of Giovanni Gabrieli (American Institute of Musicology, 1967) sees as well the seeds of the concerto grosso and the solo concerto in Gabrieli's use of tutti and solo writing and his setting off of soloistic upper parts against frankly accompanimental lower parts. lt would not stretch the point to add that Gabrieli fleshed out his many innovations with musical materials of a high order, and that he handled his materials with consummate skill.
