Andante in F major WoO 57 (Andante favori)-First conceived in 1803/04 as the slow movement of the Piano Sonata in C major op. 53 (the Waldsteinâ? Sonata) the Andante turned out too long in Beethovenâ??s view and was replaced. Beethoven had it published as a standalone movement presumably in 1805. The movement marked Grazioso con moto â? is characterised by a large variety of compositional techniques ranging from simple chord progressions to orchestral-like octave runs. Because of its particular popularity this single movement was published as Andante favoriâ? in its second printing â?? a moniker that apparently harks back to Beethoven himself. Based on her preliminary research for the critical Complete Edition Beethoven specialist Joanna Cobb Biermann has carefully revised the musical text of the Henle Urtext edition and updated the preface to reflect the latest scholarship.

By the end of the 18th century this tradition was broken as the Lute gradually fell out of favor. Reviving the centuries-old tradition of lutenist-composers Ronn's work points the way to the Lute's future. While treasuring the Lute music of the past he also creates new music for the 10-course lute blending ancient and modern styles. Esprit de Corps was originally commissioned by the United States Marine Band of Washington D.C. Col. John R. Bourgeois conductor. Based upon “The Marine's Hymn ” Esprit de Corps is a kind offantasy-march that serves as a tribute to the Marine Corps as well as to the Marine Band.Composed immediately after the 1983 bombing of the Marine barracks in Beirut Lebanon the composer chose to forego an elegy-typetribute in favor of a work that reflects the positive spirit of the Corps full of energy and dynamism. Even the tempo marking “Tempo di Bourgeois ” reflects the dramatic and spirited conducting of Col. John R.Bourgeois who was conductor of the Marine Band at the time of composing.

LESSON ONE: A blues in 12/8 with Leroy Carr's Midnight Hour Blues. Blood Red Moon follows played in a dropped D tuning. The lesson ends with Blind Lemon Jefferson's One Kind Favor. LESSON TWO: Sunday Street is an original Dave Van Ronk song and is an excellent example of Dave's arranging skills. Four choruses are taught demonstrating how this tune can develop. Bessie Smith's classic blues You've Been A Good Old Wagon is taught in the key of E. LESSON THREE: Dave's arrangement of St. Louis Tickle was the first great challenge for fingerpickers interested in classic ragtime. This four sectioned rag is played in the keys of C and F. It is an excellent example of contemporary ragtime guitar.
