Rejoice, Dolce, and Dance is written in three different and distinct styles. Rejoice is fanfare-like in quality and should be played in a bold majestic manner; balance is important in this section. Care should be taken to not let the battery percussion overpower the ensemble The forzandos are very important to the character of the fanfare and should be carefully observed. Dolce is slow and more lyrical in manner. This section should be played in a legato style. The director is encouraged to add his own interpretative elements in this section. The Dance is fast and light in character. Keep the tempo moving and pay special attention to the articulations and dynamics. Phi Beta Mu International Bandmasters Fraternity is an honorary fraternity for band directors. There are currently 35 active chapters in the United States, Canada, and Brazil. ‘No Man’s Land’ was commissioned by the ‘Noordlimburgse Brass Band’. Thierry Deleruyelle has written this work in 2018, 100 years after the end of World War 1. This work is related to his first work written for brass band, Fraternity, which tells the story about the mining accident in Courières, France. Countries such as Belgium and Germany helped France. Eight years later World War 1 broke out. Instead of helping each other, no man’s land arose.

After the first sketches had been put to paper in 1815, Beethoven only finally put the finishing touches to his last completed symphony in 1824. With its extended finale in which soloists and choir perform, building the bridge to the symphonic cantata with their invocation of fraternity, it marks a caesura in the history of the symphony that echoed long into the nineteenth century. The main theme of the ode “To Joy†by Friedrich Schiller, set to music in the final movement, has become one of the most popular melodies in all of classical music and today serves as the official anthem of Europe. Based on the musical text of the Beethoven Complete Edition and furnished with a new preface, this recently prepared edition reflects the latest in Beethoven scholarship. Now,in this study edition, it is available to everyone at a reasonable price and in a handy format.

David R. Holsinger returns to the band world with this first major composition written since his 2015 stroke. Commissioned to pay homage to Phi Beta Mu Band Fraternity, it contains all those Holsinger compositional fingerprints we enjoy playing. The plaintive opening prelude, the poly-chordal texture, followed by the robust presto we expect from this composer. Vigorous asymmetrical melodies, jubilant rhythms, fluctuating accents, poly-lineal textures, multi-layered, and electrifying excitement to the end!
