Georg Friedrich Händel: Utrecht Te Deum: Mixed Choir: Score

Handel’s Utrecht Te Deum (HWV 278) received its first performance in St Paul’s Cathedral on 7 July 1713 during the celebrations for the Treaty of Utrecht. It is among his first compositions for the Anglican Church and accordingly he set the words of the Te Deum an ancient ecclesiastical hymn of obscure origins in English translation (‘We praise thee O God’). This work written for SSAATB soli SSATB chorus and orchestra was first performed at the thanksgiving for the Treaty of Utrecht held in St Paul's Cathedral London on 7th July 1713. Together with Jubilate it was quickly established in standard use on such occasions as the Festivals of the Sons of the Clergy.This vocal score edited by Watkins Shaw includes a keyboard reduction of Handel's instrumental score for rehearsal purposes.
