Franz Schreker was an important representative of the Wiener Moderne and one of the most successful opera composers at the beginning of the 20th century. To conclude his studies at the Vienna Conservatory he set Psalm 116 for women's choir and orchestra (1900) and dedicated to his beloved teacher Robert Fuchs, in reverence. Fuchs, the highly respected composition teacher, was a close friend of Johannes Brahms and a champion of Brahms's romantic classicism. Thus, Schreker's psalm setting closely follows the tonal language of Brahms. In 1901 Psalm 116 was first performed in a concert of the Gesellschaft der Musikfreunde in Vienna, and was first published in the same year by the Viennese publisher Adolf Robitschek. The scoring of the psalm is identical with that of Brahms's Deutsches Requiem, which would suggest and facilitate a performance of both these on the same concert program. Score and parts available separately - see item CA.751000.

Composed for violinist Baird Dodge in 1995-97, SLEEP is a 25-minute concerto in three movements. Thefirst movement (Twitching) is dramatic in character, full of contrasts, pitting the violin against the orchestra in more or less romantic fashion. The second (Breathing) is comprised of overlapping layers of simple harmonies accompanying a freely evolving, lyrical melody in the violin. In the third movement (Sweating), the soloist and ensemble initially work together to create a rising line. They soon diverge, and an increasing layering of multiple lines throughout the ensemble leads to a very high point of density which is then abruptly cut off by the virtuosic frenzy in the violin which ends the work.

Olli Koskelin's high-spirited Tintinnio II for flute (2022) gives a new definition to virtuoso piece! This product is a B4 sized folder, sheet music (performance score) enclosed as loose pages.Olli Koskelin's (born 16 April 1955) compositional output reflects a wide range of interests. The vast area covered by his style encompasses the neo-impressionism of the piano work Courbures (1989) to the post-expressionist echoes of his Music for String Quartet (1981) as well as the breakneck virtuosity of his clarinet piece Exalte (1985/1991) and the rich romantic textures of his orchestral piece ... like a planet silently breathing... (1993). He often uses the overtone series like the French spectral composers and avoids dramatic culmination. Soft harmonics, tranquil arching melodies, a leisurely rhythmical pulse and a coherence of mood are in evidence in his later works as in Uurre (1997) for chamber ensemble, Miniatures (1997) for string quartet and Circles within for 19 solo strings.

On 20 December 1823 Helmina von Chezy'sRosamundereceived its premiere performance at Vienna's Theater an der Wien. Unfortunately the Viennese version of this drama with ghosts, pirates, attempted poisonings and other horrifying ingredients has not survived - unlike Schubert's popular incidental music which also includes choruses and dances. This music was already highly praised by contemporary critics, with special acknowledgment given tothe genius of this much-loved master. As evidence of its popularity, the overture and theHunters' Chorushad to be encored at the premiere. Now Barenreiter is issuing one of Schubert's best-known compositions in a complete vocal score with piano reduction.
