Dit voorstreffelijke en feestelijke werk inspireerde Wil van der Beek tot het schrijven van een schitterendebewerking voor harmonieorkest. Een uitstekende keuze!Sigurd Jorsalfar ist die Bühnenmusik zum gleichnamigen Drama des berühmten norwegischen Dichters Bjørnsterne Bjørnson. Das Werk basiert auf einer altnordischen Sage von zwei Brüdern, die beide um den Königsthron kämpfen und einer Frau, die den Streit schlichten soll. Wil van der Beek bearbeitete den feierlichen Huldigungsmarsch aus diesem Werk für Blasorchester. La Marche d’Hommage de l’acte III de la suite orchestrale Sigurd Jorsalfar d’Edvard Grieg, se trouve l’opposé des marches au caractère sombre ou martial. L’introduction en forme de fanfare est superbement lyrique. Puis vient l’exposition d’un thème joué cantabile. L’instrumentation développe quelque peu le thème initial avec des accents rythmiques la basse. Le thème de la marche est ainsi amorcé. Un trio central, lumineux et serein, précède le retour du thème de marche au tutti.

Here's a march that is so much more than a march! This celebratory concert piece contains enthusiastic fanfare, stately march, lyric melodies, rich harmonies, prominent rhythms and gentle pastoral moments. Shifting is required for violin 1, cello and bass, and optional shifting for viola. Students in all sections will experience the full spectrum of expressiveness in dynamics and bowings and will be challenged with intonation and rhythmic clarity. In the most literal sense: a piece for an occasion. The actual occasion was Jan de Haan’s twentieth anniversary as a conductor of the top Dutch brass band, “Soli Deo Gloria†(Leeuwarden). To mark the occasion, the band commissioned the Belgian comopser Jan Van der Roost to create a surprise piece: without knowledge of the person being celebrated, a suitable source of inspiration was sought for. After some thought the chorale-theme from Camille Saint-Saëns organ symphony was chosen, a piece with which Jan de Haan has a special bond.Apart from this chorale, Homage is also based on the names of notes taken from ‘Jan de Haan’ and ‘Soli Deo Gloria’, resulting in the tonerow: DEGAH. Both elements are combined together and form a grand climax towards the end of the piece when the whole band unites in the Saint Saëns’ theme. Variations Paris, 1846 was composed specifically for the 25th anniversary of ‘Brass-Aux-Saxes’ in 2014, coincidentally the 150th anniversary of Adolphe Sax, the inventor of the saxophone. As a result, Philip Sparke created this work to pay homage to Adolphe Sax. The work is a series of variations based on one original theme and gives the ‘fanfare orchestra’ a unique and rare setting you would usually only find in Belgium, the Netherlands and parts of Japan. Consequently, this shows all of the different aspects of the band through both colour and technique.Variations Paris, 1846 werd geschreven voor het 25-jarig bestaan van Fanfareorkest Brass-aux-Saxes uit het Belgische Westerlo in 2014, dat toevallig samenviel met het tweehonderdste geboortejaar van Adolphe Sax, de uitvinder van de saxofoon. Componist Philip Sparke schreef dit werk als hommage aan Sax. Het werk bestaat uit een reeks variaties op een originele koraalmelodie.
