A Tambourin is a lively dance with two beats. Originally from Provence is was often accompanied by a pipe and a tambourine. Melodic simplicity and poignant rhythm were characteristic features, often imitating the hand striking the percussion instrument. They were most popular widespread across France and Europe in the 18th Century, this dance often inspired the more sophisticated court composers, especially in France. This volume consists of 14 Tambourines by some of the great composers including Philibert de Lavigne, Christoph Willibald Gluck, Georg Friedrich Handel and Jean-Marie Leclair, all arranged for Guitar and Flute by Bent Larsen and Jan Sommer.

Mustonen's Sonata for Guitar takes the listener to the legendary world of Finnish myths and epics, with courageous heroes guiding the fate of the northern country and wizards roaming the endless woods. The sonata was named after Jahkin Iivana. Iivana (1843-1911) was one of the last great representatives of the traditional runic chant and a master of the Finnish national instrument, the kantele. Mustonen has succeeded in imitating the sound of the Finnish national instrument for the guitar in a fascinating way and created an atmosphere which makes the magic of the mythical worlds almost tangible.

Composed for soloist (any instrument) and chamber ensemble (including electric guitar and electric bass), Tales of the Traveler was commissioned by the London Sinfonietta, who gave the world premiere in 2016 with conductor Ilan Volkov and guitarist Fred Frith. Over the course of a single, 22-minute movement, the ensemble perform from strictly composed parts, while the soloist's part is entirely improvised in response to suggestions from the composer: direct imitation is discouraged, while use of noise (whatever that may mean in this context) is encouraged.

This is a sensual pantomime and dance from the region of Guanacaste in Costa Rica in which a couple imitates a Spanish bullfi ght. In this scene, while dancing and playing the role of the bull, the man tries to kiss the woman, who herself is playing the role of the bullfi ghter. Usually there are six couples dressed in bright colors and decorated hats. This dance, also known as 'Parrandera,' dates to the colonial days and similar dances are also found in Nicaragua and Salvador. The 2/4 meter with a continuos triplet rhythm in the bass line is characteristic of this dance. The accompanying instrumental ensemble includes a rich percussion section, as well as guitars and trumpets.
