Larry Clark’s natural instinct is to provide great concert band music, and once again, trusting his gut feeling has resulted in another winner. Instinct blazes out of the starting gate with an aggressive 6/8 theme, which is then manipulated and developed over the course of this great concert opener or closer. We’re willing to bet that your audience will be out of their seats by the end.

“I Hear the Drum†was inspired by Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.'s 1968 “Drum Major Instinct†speech, sometimes called the “Drum Major for Justice.†This powerful choral setting includes a rap that can be led by a soloist or performed by a select group. It was commissioned for the annual “Let Freedom Sing Concert†in Nashville, TN, which honors the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. With a message that addresses social justice, it is a timely anthem for the 21st century.

The idea of composing 'Games' was suggested by children playing spontaneously, children for whom the piano still means a toy. They experiment with it, caress it, attack it and run their fingers over it. They pile up seemingly disconnected sounds, and if this happens to arouse their musical instinct they look consciously for some of the harmonies found by chance and keep repeating them. Thus this series does not provide a tutor, nor does it simply stand as a collection of pieces. It is a possibility for experimenting and not for learning to play the piano.Pleasure in playing, the joy of movement - daring and if need be fast movement over the entire keyboard right from the firstlessons instead of clumsy groping for keys and the counting of rhythms - all these rather vague ideas lay at the outset of the creation of this collection. Playing - is just playing. It requires a great deal of freedom and initiative from the performer. On no account should the written image be taken seriously but the written image must be taken extremely seriously as regards the musical process, the quality of sound and silence. We should trust the picture of the printed notes and let is exert its influence upon us. The graphic picture conveys an idea about the arrangement in time of even the most free pieces. We should make use of all that we know and remember of free declamation, folk-music parlando-rubato, of Gregorian chant and of all that improvisational musical practice has ever brought forth.Let us tackle bravely even the most difficult task without being afraid of making mistakes: we should try to create valid proportions, unity and continuity out of the long and short values - just for our own pleasure! This narrative setting of Lincoln's immortal Gettysburg Address was commissioned by the United States President's Own Marine Band in early 2009. As beautiful as the speech is on paper, the best way to appreciate Lincoln's musical instinct for timbre, phrasing, and rhythmic patterns is through recitation---and American composer Randol Alan Bass has created a unique musical opportunity for us to do that. The operas of Richard Strauss are among the most frequently performed stage works of the 20th Century. His instinct for musical shape and dramatic stage design, his brilliant orchestration as well as his collaboration with eminent writers such as Hugo von Hofmannsthal truly set his works apart. In this Richard Strauss Edition 8 works for the stage are made available for the very first time as study scores: * Two early works, Guntram and Feuersnot * Two ballets Josephs Legende and Schlagobers * The complete incidental music to Der Bürger als Edelmann (originally a part of the first version of Ariadne auf Naxos) * And three rarely performed operas, Die ägyptische Helena, Friedenstag and Die Liebe der Danae. The Richard Strauss Edition comprises 18 volumes and is available with either a linen or leather binding. Each volume contains important orchestral information, information about the first performance and a facsimile page of the autograph score.

Johann Sebastian Bach’s (1685—1750) SixSonatas and Partitas have captivated violinistsfor centuries. Rachel Barton Pine—havingspent decades studying the music of Bach, his contemporaries, and his predecessors—now offers this unparalleled edition completewith detailed historical notes, performancesuggestions, and downloadable study materialsincluding a new Urtext edition and a speciallyprepared manuscript. Pine’s interpretationis informed by thorough historical study, which has been polished byyears of performance insight, but also encourages those studying Bach’srepertoire to craft their own unique interpretation of these timelessmasterpieces. This edition closely follows Pine’s critically acclaimed 2016recording “Testament: Complete Sonatas and Partitas for Solo Violin byJ.S. Bach†(Avie 2360) making it an invaluable resource for any student, teacher, or performer enthralled with J.S. Bach’s long standing legacy.Ms. Pine holds the distinction of being the only American and youngestperson to win the gold medal at the J.S. Bach International ViolinCompetition in Leipzig, Germany, 1992.here is no one right way to play Bach. More thanalmost any repertoire, each individual’s interpretation isas unique as their personality. Though I have spent decadesstudying Bach’s music as well as that of his contemporariesand predecessors, my final rationale for artisticdecisions is often taste and instinct. Every violinist whoundertakes a lifetime’s journey with this incredible repertoireis continually discovering new ideas. Thus, theopinions on the following pages may evolve over time. However, everything in the sheet music closely follows my2016 recording “Testament: Complete Sonatas and Partitasfor Solo Violin by J.S. Bach†(Avie 2360), which I trulyfeel represents the culmination of my exploration intothese extraordinary works. In choosing to present this edition, my hope is thatyou will find useful solutions to challenges of fingering, bowing, and polyphony, and helpful information aboutphrasing. I have also included additional dynamic suggestionswith the hope that trying these ideas will help inspireyou to discover your own. All of these markings aredesigned to work with a baroque violin and baroque bow,a modern violin and baroque bow, or a modern violinand modern bow. While the information in this editionis unusually dense, there is much that I did not include, such as lifts, breaths, articulations, whether to play on oroff the string, metronome markings, details of timing, and emphases other than hemiolas.I offer this book to you in the spirit of Bach: “SoliDeo Gloria.â€.

A companion to the best-selling book by James Jordan The seven meditations on this recording are a wonderful companion to any musical journey. There are many ways that you can use these meditations, the authors encourage you to trust your own instinct as to how you can enjoy and benefit from them. Use them in whatever creative way you wish. Tap into your own inner wisdom and your natural creativity to develop your own prayers, writings, and meditations that will come from what you have encountered in your own soul-work. Each of the seven meditations develops themes that are important for the inner journey. Since they are directed towards musicians, the meditations make use of much imagery particular to their special vocation in life, however, they can easily be applied to any life situation. The Musician’s Soul Meditations CD contains seven meditations on particular themes: • Visioning • Shedding • Be, Do, Have • Gifts • Giving • Coming from Love • Commitment In some cases, the meditations address specific topics from The Musician’s Soul. In other cases, the meditations have come from Fr. Bede's personal conversations with Dr. Jordan over the past ten years and from work with his own choirs and the choirs at Westminster. All of the meditations are designed to assist in the work, which Dr. Jordan encourages us all to undertake if our music is to sing with the spiritual depth that is its rightful heritage.

Fasten Your Seatbelt is a septet in two movements for solo euphonium (with alternative parts for solo trombone or solo tenor saxophone), alto saxophone, trumpet, bass guitar, electric piano, drum set and marimba/congas. It is a typical example of the versatile composing talent of Roland Szentpali. His approach to jazz is well structured, with virtuoso written sequences over a dynamic rhythm section sustaining the three melodic wind instruments (with optional improvisation spaces for them). I. Hunting Instinct is a 7/4 speedy groove music running over long basso continuo ostinati of the rhythm section including collectiv virtuoso intrusions of the wind instruments and improvised sequences. II. Transfer Passenger is pushing another kind of speedy groove, here on a more traditional 4/4, inspired by the human traffic jam in crowded international airports... Indeed, fasten your seatbelt... World premiere: 30th of June 2017, Theater 'de Schalm' in Veldhoven, the Netherlands with the Jazz Combo of “The Band of the Royal Netherlands Army Mounted Regiment and soloist Rodin Rosendahl on the euphonium.
