Intersections by noted Canadian composer, Bob Buckley is an interplay between the different sections of the band. The opening melody starts off with the alto, tenor, flugel, and trumpet and then develops into a ‘call and response between the reeds and brass. The next section opens with a line played by the bari, bass bone, guitar, and bass, contrasted with horn stabs, leading into the first solo sections. Later a cannon between the upper and lower voices leads to an ensemble section, another solo section and a blazing finish. A fun chart where all sections have a chance to shine!

Queen Bee is a solo work for bass tuba or contrabass tuba. It is a continuation of Jennah Vainio's quest to write a solo piece for each of the symphony orchestra's instruments. The piece starts with a melodic phrase, which is followed by and intersected with, a groove in varying time signatures. In the end the melody line re-emerges to reign supreme.

This collection of fiddle tunes originally appeared in Kaufmans Collection of American Fiddle Tunes for Flatpicking Guitar. Steve Kaufman says he cant emphasize enough the importance of developing a large repertoire of tunes. Fiddle tunes give us melodies that eventually allow us to begin to improvise. Sometimes without even knowing it. The more tunes you know, the more melodies and intersecting melody lines you know. This allows you to eventually cut and paste portions of the melody line into another song. In the beginning you will probably unknowingly replace an ending run. These are the last two measures of the section of a tune. Many of them in the same key are interchangeable, unless they are specific to the melody of the song. After a while you will cut out measures in the middle of the song and then you will be able to take the snips of melodies and play them in another song in a different key thus beginning to improvise. All of this is possible because you built up your repertoire of tunes. Includes access to online audio.

Angel View by Juliana Hodskinson , scored for seven or more performers and electronics. 'Angel View is an assemblage of urban and musical debris, somewhere between a wordless live radio play, enacted film soundtrack and instrumental theatre. Chiseling cement, falling debris, scraping cutlery, breaking glass, criss-crossing cables, squealing tram-wheels, an upturned bicycle, a grid of cables, a travel souvenir, a shop window, a revolving carousel, a brace of monkeys, a wall under siege, a dining table laid for an ancestral dinner - it is a sonic bazaar. Made up of over 20 parts, each designed to overlap, the work's architecture is full of of non-sequiturs and arbitrarycross-relations between imagined streets intersecting and running parallel, reflecting the surrealism of everyday life described in Walter Benjamin's Einbahnstrasse and still present in the contemporary dilemmas and opportunities of Berlin today. All this is heard as if from an aerial perspective, perhaps the Victory Column where angels sit in Wings of Desire, from where Berlin below is observed as a series of tragedies.' Juliana Hodskinson.

Laird, Marie Sumner Lott, Simon McVeigh, Elio Matassi, Russ Manitt, Jenny Nex, Leon Plantinga, Alban Ramaut, Rudolf Rasch, David Rowland, Laure Schnapper, Rohan H. Stewart-MacDonald, Renata Suchowiejko, Maria Alice VolpeIn this volume we wanted to investigate the intersection between the Industrial Revolution and the aesthetic-musical field. In particular, we aimed to explore the European dimension of the cultural exchanges caused by the phenomenon of musical migration, together with the international relationships generated by the music printing industry, entrepreneurship and the market for musical instruments. The later eighteenth and earlier nineteenth centuries were a time of fundamental change in European life, proceeding from the revolutionary implications of the ideologies of Enlightenment, and reverberating in market economies, methods of manufacturing and agriculture, modes of travel, and population distribution. The development of new technologies resulted in the enlargement and improvement of the music printing industry, and in the widespread diffusion of music in private and public spheres. The Industrial Revolution brought about the ‘modernization’ of productive processes and, as a consequence, engendered a kind of ‘globalization’ of the musical market.
