Composed between 1920 and 1921 this set of Histoires is a suite of four short movements by Jacques Ibert selected out of the ten initial ones for Flute and Piano. This publication was commissioned by the Alphonse Leduc editors and increased Jacques Ibert’s popularity. This four pieces are as followed : 3. Le vieux mendiant (The old beggar) 4. “A Giddy girl” 6. Le palais abandonné (The abandoned palace) 7. Bajo la mesa (Under the table) The difficulty of these works will fit intermediate to upper intermediate players. Jacques Ibert(1890-1962) also composed many symphonic suites operas and seven orchestras including 'Angelique' (1926) and 'Entertainment' (1930). He also was in charge of the French Academy in the Villa Médicis (Roma) and became later administrator for the Paris Opera.

Written for piano, this publication was commissioned by Alphonse Leduc editor and increased Jacques Ibert's popularity. The ten pieces are as follows: 1. La meneuse de tortures d?or (The golden Turtle's leader) 2. Le petit âne blanc (The little white donkey) 3. Le vieux mendicant (The old beggar) 4. A Giddy girl?5. Dans la maison triste (In the sad house) 6. Le palais abandonné (The abandoned palace) 7. Bajo la mesa (Under the table) 8. La cage de cristal (The crystal cage) 9. La marchande d?eau fraiche (The fresh water merchant) 10. Le cortège de Balkis (Balkis march). It is believed that the pieces 1, 2, 4, 8 and 10 were initially composed for 4-hand piano. Jacques Ibert (1890-1962) also composed many symphonic suites, operas and seven orchestras, including Angelique (1926) and Divertissement (1930). He also was in charge of the French Academy in the Villa Médicis (Roma) and was later administrator for the Paris Opera.

Jacques Ibert (1890-1962) studied at the Paris Conservatoire before embarking upon a successful composing career. Stories increased his popularity when it was published in the mid-1920s and Marcel Moyse (1889-1984), a prominent French flautist, arranged the compilation for flute and piano in 1933 to great acclaim. Stories for Flute and Piano is made up of six movements; 1) The Leader of the Gold Turtles, 2) The Little White Donkey, 3) In the Sad House, 4) The Crystal Cage, 5) The Market of Fresh Water, and 6) The Procession of Balkis. Containing a variety of musical aspects and techniques, Moyse's arrangement for flute and piano of Ibert's Stories is an exciting addition to the intermediate level flautist's repertoire.
