Composed around 1720, the sonatas and partitas display rich polyphonic writing, unlike the simpler monophonic cello suites. This collection features a challenging but rewarding transcription of the complete A minor Violin Sonata (BWV 1002), which fits particularly well on the bass. Also included are the well-known gavotte en rondeau from the E major violin partita (BWV1006) and the complete A minor partita for solo flute (BWV 1013), transposed here to D minor. This chorale movement is one of his most enduring works however the melody was originally composed before Bach’s time in 1642 by Johann Schop. Utilising the already existing melody Bach wrote this setting of Jesu Joy Of Man’s Desiring in 1716 as the 10th and last movement of the church cantata ‘Herz und Mund und Tat und Leben’ (BWV 147) one of the over three hundred cantatas written by the master of the Baroque period.This edition of the familiar melody which is often performed at weddings and Christian festive seasons like Christmas and Easter is arranged for SATB Chorus and Organ. All four verses of the lyrics are provided in English translation along with the original version in German.

Companion CD to the Songbook-This companion CD will assist harp players in learning the pieces in the Pachelbel's Canon and Jesu Joy of Man's Desiring books. Since many will want to ?play along? as they learn Sylvia has recordedthese pieces slower than they are usually played and as ?straight? as possible with little or no expression or rhythmic variations. The Canon was recorded at a metronome marking of 92 and Jesu at 100. Inall of the duet versions one harp part is on one tract of the stereo and the second harp part (or the flute part) is on the other. If you can adjust the separate channels you can hear each part separately. The three versions ofthe Canon are played first in the original key of D and then in the key of G. All the versions of the Jesu are without repeats and go straight to the second ending.
