Introduction Theme and Variations is a challenging and exciting for solo Flute with Piano accompaniment. The theme has folk-like melody but was also inspired by Japanese music the composer often visited Japan with his wife and father. The seven variations are more firmly in the western classical tradition but still have elements of Japanese tonality. They remain among the finest works of Louis Moyse (1912-2007): a noted French flautist composer and editor of Flute music. Raised in Paris and educated by his father Marcel also a famous flautist he was also a skilled pianist.

A collection of flute pieces which were all requested by the Paris Conservatory for its annual contest at some time. Each is a real challenge for the performer technically and musically. Includes Cecile Chaminade's Concertino Georges Enesco's Cantabile et Presto and Paul Taffanel's Andante Pastoral et Scherzettino. Edited by Louis Moyse.
