Composers such as Smetana Tchaikovsky Dvorak or Grieg added elements from the folk music of their home countries to their waltzes. As a result the waltz may appear as an English Waltz American Boston Polish mazurka or French valse musette. Tribute To Piano Solo (Coates). This book includes 31 songs from the famous 'Porgy and Bess' opera american composers, George and Ira Gershwin. Already songwriters in high school, it's in the 20s that Ira and George make a name for themselves on Broadway, but separatly. It's only few years later that the brothers decide to write together. This compilation comprises 6 books; Trumpet Chants; Trumpet Tone Poems, Trumpet Ballads and Waltzes, Trumpet Partitas, Soliloquies for Flugelhorn, Trumpet or Cornet, and Hymns for Unaccompanied Trumpet. Many of the pieces have been revised and new ones have been added. Each book was recorded with a different instrument although Trumpet Ballads and Waltzes and Trumpet Partitas were both recorded with a cornet. However, a different mouthpiece was used for each of those two recordings, thus giving each a slightly different sound. Both the instrument and the mouthpiece used are noted on the title page of each section. Most of the selections are aimed at developing tone and lyricism on the trumpet. However, Trumpet Partitas definitely addresses technical issues. There is a wealth of music in this collection, and it will add much to trumpet practice and performance repertoire. The title is a clumsily literal translation of Brahms' Liebeslieder Waltzer and the work is in part a response to Brahms' wonderfully subtle invocation of the waltz. Like other pieces which are 'about' dance rather than to be danced to this is abstract music in which the characteristics of the waltz are immanent not explicit. The piece like its ancestors is in a way nostalgic about a lost dance form as well as reflective of the music of a century ago.
