The Slovenian composer Katarina Pustinek Rakar (b. 1979) studied music theory, oboe, singing, and composition in Ljubljana. She is actively involved with the best Slovenian choirs, is a member of the Slovenian Philharmonic Choir, and teaches sol-fa and music theory at the Ljubljana Conservatory. Her compositions comprise mainly vocal music (children's songs, works for youth, women's, male voice, and mixed choirs), and she is regularly commissioned to write for these groups. In 2018 she became fascinated and inspired by poems by the English writer Christina G. Rossetti (1830-1894). She soon set some of her poems, including Remember, which we are now publishing. A lyrical, extremely expressive composition!

Francis of Assisi, the famous merchant's son and later founder of a religious order, has served as a source of inspiration from the most varied perspectives, and Damijan Mocnik has added to this tradition. The Slovenian composer and choral director composed a cantata in 2013 on the 25th anniversary of the D iocesan Grammar School in Ljubljana, based on the text of the famous Canticle of the Sun, and later (2014-16) - using the cantata's themes - a complete setting of the ordinary of the mass as well. The instrumental parts match both the version for four-part mixed chorus (Carus 28.008/00) and the version for upper voices (Carus 28.008/50).

A beautiful vocal work of about 2 1/2 to 3 minutes in length transcribed for 8-part antiphonal trombone choir by Ralph Sauer, L.A. Philharmonic Principal Trombone. Handl's Pater Noster is not too difficult and would be appropriate for almost any level group including high school level. The range is conservative with an occasional high B-flat. Jacob Handl was an Austrian composer of Slovene descent, born in Ljubljana. Choirmaster to the Bishop of Olmutz 1579-1585, he lived thereafter in Prague as an organist.
