Luminosity is commissioned by the conductor James Jordan of Westminster Choir College for the Westminster Williamson Voices the women of the Westminster Schola Cantorum the Blair AcademySingers (conductor William Hammer) and the black-light dance company Archedream for performance in Philadelphia Cathedral during April 2008. The text compiled and edited by the composer centres on the transcendentbeauty of creation expressed by luminaries down the ages. Texts are taken from the writings of St. John; St. Teresa of Avila; Ryonen; St. Augustine; Julian of Norwich and St. Isaac of Nineveh.

Eduardo Toldra (1895-1962) was a forefront figure of Catalan music and an all-round complete artist - he was a composer a violinist and a conductor. His emblematic work Vistas Al Mar is a masterpiece for strings. A noteworthy feature of the work is the transparent luminosity of the outer movements and the contemplative nocturne second movement which depicts a warm calm atmosphere and must be one of the high points of this composer's output.This is the score for this work.

I. Rêverie / II. Capriccio. Par CASABLANCAS BENET. Work commissioned by the pianists Iván Martín and Alba Ventura, on the occasion of the commemoration of the Centenary of Enric Granados (2016), and lasts approximately 10 minutes. It comprises two pieces of very contrasting character. The first, Rêverie, is a nocturne with broad resonances that unfolds in a recollected and expectant atmosphere, presided over by a lyrical expression and contemplative sign, scarcely disturbed by more passionate outbursts. Its cantabile course and precious writing conceal veiled references to the poetic and pianistic universe of Granados, including a hidden allusion to the musical acrostic of his name (made up of the notes Do-Mi [EnriC] and Sol-La-Re-Mib [GrAnaDoS]), which confers a special luminosity to its harmonic material. The Capriccio that follows lives up to its name with a more virtuosic and vigorous writing, with playful and colourful rhythmic accents, which drifts in its central part towards the dreamlike and ecstatic register that presided over some sections of the Rêverie, to conclude with a brilliant stretta. The premieres of the two pieces that make up the present work took place on 20 January 2016 at the Palau de la Música Catalana in Barcelona (Capriccio) and on 14 April 2016 at the Auditori de Barcelona (Rêverie), starring Iván Martín and Alba Ventura, respectively. Both pieces are contemporaries of the 'Romanza sin palabras', for chamber ensemble, commissioned by The City University of New York on the occasion of the celebration of the Granados Year in New York, and premiered on 10 March 2016 at the Elebash Recital Hall of the CUNY by the Perspectives Ensemble (art. dir. Sato Moughalian), conducted by Ángel Gil-Ordóñez. The work is dedicated to Maneleta Domingo, María Lourdes Antràs and Virginia Casablancas. / Date parution : 2022-04-01/ Répertoire / Piano
