Par KALLIWODA JOHANN WENZEL. Der böhmische Komponist Johann Wenzel Kalliwoda (1801-1866) spielte im deutschen Musikleben des zweiten Viertels des 19. Jahrhunderts eine bedeutende Rolle. Robert Schumann lobte seinen Kollegen, der von 1822 an bis zu seinem Tod als Hofkapellmeister in Donaueschingen wirkte, als einen 'grünen lebensfrischen Stamm im deutschen Musiker-Dichterwald'. Kalliwoda, der hauptsächlich symphonische und Kammermusik komponierte, schrieb auch zehn Messen. In der Messe für gemischten Chor a cappella in a-Moll zeigt sich Kalliwoda der Tradition katholischer Kirchenmusik verpflichtet und bedient sich gleichzeitig einer romantisch-gefühlvollen Musiksprache. / Messe / Répertoire / Choeur SATB

With the first publication of the three-voice a-cappella mass by the Prague composer and violin virtuoso Johann Wenzel Kalliwoda, Carus extends it’s Bohemian-Czech repertoire by yet another work: a smooth, predominantly syllabic short mass setting [approx. 13 Minutes], probably composed in the 1850s for the court of the Prince of Fürstenberg, the impressionable G major Mass [with the complete text of the traditional mass] tailor made for being performed in a small court.
