Haydn wrote the Missa Sancti Nicolai in 1772, probably for the name day of prince Nicolaus Esterhazy. This work is on a larger scale than the other missae breves, and in the orchestra two oboes and two horns join the strings. At the very beginning of the Kyrie the gentle, pastoral character which distinguishes this work is established. Haydn reprises the music of the Kyrie in the Dona nobis pacem to round off the work. The full score contains at the same time the organ part. This work is now available in carus music, the choir app! Score and part available separately - see item CA.4060500.

This mass setting was commissioned by the Friends of Christ Church Cathedral, Oxford and first performed on Ascension Sunday, 1994. Suitable for both church and concert use, the music is both lyrical and dramatic. The ââ¬ÅBenedictusââ¬Â is for SATB divisi and begins with a short 6/8 declamation, then moves into a section where the rhythmic idea is set in a sort of off-the-beat fashion, with all parts divisi playing against each other. A unison section with the off-the-beat motif follows. A majestic ââ¬ÅHosannaââ¬Â follows. The ââ¬ÅAgnus Deiââ¬Â is set in a rubato triple meter in a homophonic style with close chords (also divisi.) At the ââ¬Åmiserere,ââ¬Â the choir 1/choir 2 call and response motif from the ââ¬ÅGloriaââ¬Â returns. That same motif continues into the ââ¬Ådona nobis pacem,ââ¬Â as the movement (and the entire Mass) ends with a long decrescendo into a quiet call, ââ¬ÅPacem.ââ¬Â Duration 7:33.

Beethoven described his Missa solemnis several times as his greatest work. Coming from the heart, it was intended to touch and move audiences. Beethoven worked long and intensively on the composition in order to give what he felt was adequate expression to the text. In its length and musical demands, the Missa solemnis goes far beyond typical liturgical settings; for good reason, the premiere took place in a concert hall. With this arrangement for chamber orchestra (flute, oboe, clarinet, bassoon, horn, trumpet, trombone, timpani and strings, plus organ ad lib), smaller choirs, as well as choirs with more limited resources of space or finance, can now perform this work too. However, the symphonic character and wide dynamic range of the work remain. The scoring of 7 instead of 18 winds offers an optimal balance between transparency and orchestral sound. All the vocal parts (soloists and chorus) are identical with the original version, so that the vocal score and chorus score of that version can be used. Major mass can also be performed by smaller choir Wind and brass parts of the original version reduced to just seven single instruments Vocal scores and choral scores from the original version can be used. carus plus: the work (original version) is available in carus music, the choir app, and in the practice CD series Carus Choir Coach. Prayer for the Homeland to a well-known text 'God, Steward and Lord of nations' by the Reverend Father Piotr Skarga was included in the Missa pro Pace - Mass for the Homeland, commissioned by the Polish Army Concert Orcestra and written in 1998. Dedicated to Slawoj Leszek Glodz, the Field Bishop of the Polish Army, the work has been presented in Poland and abroad many times as well as played on the radio, TV and CDs, always performed by the Choir of the Catholic Theological Academy in Warsaw, where I sang between 1987 and 2002.

The Latin text of the mass is venerable, universal, and unites people. For the German Protestant Church Congress 2015, this ancient text was set in contemporary style by Tilman Jager under the title Missa Pacis. Impressive sounds, mystic-meditative moods, Latin American rhythms, catchy melodies and a Dona nobis pacem for everyone to join in combine in the Missa Pacis to form a convincing whole. The hour-long composition is scored for 4-8 part chorus with optional soloists and accompanying band. The work is generally tonal, but offers a breadth of different styles ranging from classical choral-symphonic to rhythmic choral movements with influences from gospel, jazz, and pop. Parts for the accompanying band are fully written out. In some sections of the mass the instrumentalists can also improvise. Score available separately - see item CA.2800500.

An achievable masterwork in the Viennese Classical style, Dr. Liebergen's edition presents the option of featuring a vocal quartet on selected passages. One Latin phrase and welcome repetition minimize woodshedding and allow musicianship to be the focus in concert or adjudication.

An unusual feature of this Mass is its cyclic form, a compositional principle which Mozart first introduced in his masses in this Mass in C: in the Agnus Dei (Dona nobis pacem) he reverted to the music of the Kyrie, thus giving the Mass overall musical unity. Another unusual feature of this work is its popular character. This is evident both in its catchy themes and in its relatively straigthforward musical structure. This work is now available in carus music, the choir app! Score available separately - see item CA.4062600.

Missa in incerto tempore (The Davison Mass) (2018) was commissioned by the Harvard Glee Club. It was premiered by the Harvard Glee Club, Cambridge, Massachusetts (Andrew Clark, Director of Choral Activities) and the All Saints' Choir of Men and Boys (Ashmont Boy Choir), Dorchester, Massachusetts; (Andrew Sheranian, Organist and Master of Choristers). The Latin title, meaning Mass in uncertain times, refers to the centuries of comfort, inspiration, and spiritual enrichment that the mass (and the musical settings for its celebration) has provided to many individuals through difficulty and uncertainty. I cannot deny that the times in which this piece was composed are the most nationally and internationally uncertain of my own life to date. That fact had a definite impact on the tone and emotional character of the piece. However, there is a universality as well, since one could readily feel that all times have a sense of uncertainty, especially since we never know exactly what the future holds. The first three movements have somewhat enigmatic endings. The end of the Agnus Dei tries to temper (but not erase) that uncertainty with a degree of optimism and fervor in a passionate plea of Dona nobis pacem. Instrumentation: SATB Chorus, Men's Chorus, and Two Organs (Opt. One Organ) Duration: 20' Composed: 2018 Published by: Zimbel Press.

The Missa latina is a complete setting of the Latin Mass for solo soprano, large mixed choir (SATB divisi as well as soloists from the choir) and a band consisting of violin, bandoneon (accordion), piano, double bass, drums and percussion. The word latina not only refers to the Latin text, but also to the musical style which makes use of Latin-American rhythms. Thus elements from Argentinian tangos stand side by side with Caribbean rhythms and Latin jazz with enough space provided for instrumental improvisations.
