Eight Varied Pieces For Orchestra-Three new collections of varied pieces for orchestra for players from beginner to grade 3 standard.This collection of three books each containing eight varied pieces has been compiled to capture the imagination of young players and to introduce them to a wide range of musical styles.Special effects appropriate to each instrument provide additional learning points and great entertainment both in rehearsal and performance. There are glissandos for strings and trombone flutter tonguing for flute and trumpets (for those able to) and a range of vocal sounds for all!The scoring allows these pieces to be played by variouscombinations of instruments. Danzas is a suite inspired by the music of Latin America. It is a great choice for a Pops or an outdoor concert and is playable by amateur and student ensembles as well as professional orchestras. The work consists of three movements each devoted to the musicalculture of a different country: 1. Argentina 2. Brazil 3. Cuba. It may be performed as a whole or individual movements may be played instead as an opener/ closer.

This arrangement has been made from the original orchestration for full orchestra and incorporates the cuts authorized by the composer in 1963. The piano duet part is optional unless no wind is available. The brass parts are fully cued in both string and woodwind parts. The minimum wind required is 1 flute 1 oboe and 2 clarinets. Full Score-The Persian traditional music (called the Dastgah Segah) is based on intervals made of three quarter-tones and natural whole-tones. Segah has no interval in common with the European/ Western equal-temperament tuning. This lack of common intervalsbetween the Segah mode and the equal-temperament tuning will lead to a cognitive dissonance if this mode is set against the equal-temperament system. My goal has been to elaborate on the innate tensions that exists between the two interval systemsand use it as a symbol for the existing political and cultural tensions between the Persian and the Western cultures. The piece consists of two Persian traditional instruments the Ney (Persian vertical bamboo flute) and the Kamanche (Persian spikefiddle) as the musical representatives of the Persian culture set against the Western orchestra as the musical representative of the Western culture. A small ensemble of Western instruments consisting of a harp and string quintet accompanies thePersian instruments. The harp is tuned to the Segah intervals and the string quintet plays in the Segah mode. The orchestra is performing inthe Western equal- temperament tuning. From the very first bars of the main section of the piece confusionsand misunderstandings arise. The orchestra being unable to play in Segah or understand the mode becomes more and more agitated. Musical tensions between the soloists and the orchestra lead to musical confrontations and finally to musicalviolence. The orchestra becomes extremely violent and militaristic and tries to suppress the soloists efforts to express their musical thoughts. In the midst of all these confusions and cultural misunderstandings musical connections and attractionsstart to take place. The orchestra and the soloists find themselves musically attracted to each other and start imitating each others musical phrases. Cognitive dissonances start to be gradually transformed to musical dialogues symbolizing thegradual replacement of the clash of civilizations with the dialogue of civilizations. Segah was written for Khosrow and Kian Soltani and premiered at the Segah Festival on January 15 2016.

Much of his life was spent in Bayreuth working for the court of Wilhelmine of Prussia Margravine of Bayreuth teaching her composition and violin. During his lifetime he composed a variety of orchestra and chamber music including this Concerto in B-flat Major in three movements: Allegro ma non troppo Andante and Allegretto. This edition includes the full orchestral score orchestral parts as well as guitar and lute parts. Victor Van Puijenbroeck has adapted the original solo part and included in the set areparts for both lute (the part has been adapted from lute tablature to modern notation) and guitar (capotasto). Wish You Were Here written for the Boston Pops pays homage to Colin McPhee one of the first western musicologists to study Balinese gamelan as well as to the great illustrators Carl Barks and Herge (responsible for Donald Duck & Tintin respectively). Muhly has written a completely romantic and fanciful gamelan-influenced piece. On top of this twittery and excited music a long lonesome melody unfolds. After a desolate interlude with severe ship’s-horn brass the energetic patterns start again and the long line returns this time with a triumphant revelatory ending. Arranged for orchestra this piece has a duration ofapproximately 8 minutes.

Of Elgar's five Pomp and Circumstance Marches the first in D is the best known as it includes Land of Hope and Glory. Commissioned by the St. Paul Chamber Orchestra this concertino was originally conceived as a part of a complete educational concertprogram. Four concertini each featuring a different instrumental family within the chamber orchestra are played in succession to demonstrate the characteristic sounds of those instruments. The music is thematically related but not identical to the Concertino for Chamber Orchestra (parts available on rental from the publisher) which serves as the program's closer demonstrating all of theorchestral sections playing together. This program is suggested by the composer for orchestra concerts however each instrumental concertino can beperformed individually and stands quite effectively on its own as a short chamber recital piece.

Full Score-Peng-Peng Gong's Metropolitan Overture was a joint commission of the Philadelphia Orchestra and the Shanghai Philharmonic Orchestra. The premiere concert on May 22 2016 was both to open the five-year artistic collaboration between the two orchestras and also to welcome the grand opening of the Shanghai Disneyland. The work is a jubilant merge of Shanghai folk-music and Disney-style scores making it an excellent concert opener or encore. Borrowing Mussorgsky's 'Promenade' from Pictures at an Exhibition the piece has twowalkers (violas) who take the listener with them onto the Via Della Fortuna then lead them from house to house. Several amber objects were found within the houses linking Pompeii with Lithuania. The lastmovement returns to the House of the Ancient Hunt then heads northwards along the Gintaro Kelias. The jubilant closing music refers to an earlier work (Geda's Weavings) based on Lithuanian folksongs.

This complete orchestration by Robert Russell Bennett the arranger of the original Broadway production is a standard among professional and community orchestras alike and includes The Sound of Music (main title) How Can Love Survive The Lonely Goatherd My Favorite Things Sixteen Going on Seventeen Do-R?-Mi Edelweiss An Ordinary Couple No Way to Stop It Maria and Climb Ev'ry Mountain.
