Concerto Omaggio to Franz Liszt by Manuel Blancafort, for piano and orchestra. It is the first work that the composer undertook after the blow that supposed the Spanish civil war. In words of the same Blancafort, Finished the war, my first composition, once installed in Sarria, was the Omaggio Concert, finished and released in 1944. It is the most spectacular success in situ that has obtained a work of mine .The work was released day 1 of December of the 1944 by Maria Canals (piano) and the Barcelona Municipal Orchestra, conducted by Eduard Toldra. The composer and music critic Xavier Montsalvatge wrote in La Vanguardia: Blancafort, unconsciously, has been surrended by melody avoiding preciosities, giving free rein to the sincerity and to the simplicity of his feelings, and has created this magnificent concert, in which subjects and harmonization are impregnated of a deep elegance. It requires a group of complete symphony orchestra with soloist piano and it is 40 minutes long.

With his 'Omaggio a Vivaldi' Enjott Schneider drew a musical portrait of the Italian Baroque master. Whereas the first movement illuminates the topic of Vivaldi's scandalous relationship with the prima donna Anna who was his junior by 25 years, the second movement focuses on the composer of magical dream worlds who was far ahead of his time. The final virtuoso picture characterizes Vivaldi in the way that many of his contemporaries saw him: as a manically composing eccentric. The Concerto for recorder, strings and harpsichord is dedicated to the virtuoso flutist Stefan Temmingh. Created by the composer himself, the piano score now makes this interesting piece accessible for chamber music purposes.

Omaggio was commissioned by Steven Mead in celebration of his 60th birthday and in memory of his father, Rex. He gave the premiere of the brass band version in Rome in March 2022, accompanied by the Italian Brass Band conducted by Filippo Cangiamilla. The concertband premiere took place on 6th July that year as part of the 2022 Spanish International Tuba Euphonium Conference, accompanied by the Banda municipal de música de Málaga. The concerto is set in 3 continuous movements, which are united by a recurring syncopated interval of a fifth. The first movement, FANTASIA, opens with this motive accompanying an extended monologue for the soloist. This is followed by a lengthy bridge passage by the piano, which is eventually joined by the soloist, who guides the music back to the opening soliloquy, leading to an energetic central section. This develops until the opening material again returns to introduce the second movement, BALLAD, which revolves around an expressive melody for the soloist, interspersed by accompanied cadenzas. The thirdmovement, THE KING TRIUMPHANT, pays homage to Steven’s late father, Rex, and its title alludes both to Rex's name ('Rex' being Latinfor 'king') as well as his love of Eric Ball’s Salvationist masterpiece, The Kingdom Triumphant. The finale is an energetic tour-de-force featuring an acrobatic 6/8 melody, which is interrupted twice by the magnificent hymn tune, Helmsley, which Ball uses so effectively in The Kingdom Triumphant. A galloping coda brings the work to a close.

From Ancient Times is a major work for brass band, inspired largely by the music of the Franco-Flemish School of the Renaissance. Hints of Gregorian chant and middle age dances pay tribute to music from even earlier times. The foundation of this spectacular work rests on truly 'ancient times' while the tonal language is of a much more modern nature! Odelettesis the title of a cycle of poems by the 19th-century French writer, Gérard de Neval. In his work, Trois Odelettes, Jacob de Haan set three of de Neval’s poems to music for soprano voice and concert band: Une Allée du Luxembourg describes a fleeting moment of love; Espagne is a typically sounding ode to Spain; and Chanson Gothique describes the joy of life itself.

‘The Fellowship’ is a musical homage to friendship and camaraderie, symbolised in two alternating, complementary themes. The themes are based on popular songs from two sister municipalities, one lying in Normandy (France), and the other in Rheinland-Pfalz (Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany). Through the merging of their songs in this composition, their bond of friendship is sealed for eternity. The Fellowship staat voor vriendschap en kameraadschap. Since the beginning of mankind people have realized that the warmth and the light of the sun were necessary to develop life on earth - by creating winds in the air, by generating rains through the evaporation of sea water and by allowing plants to grow. The sun creates the dynamism of the chain of life. This is the reason why ancient populations adored the sun as the god of cosmic order as opposed to the god of chaos or night, who generated fear and the necessity of defense. This piece is a tribute to the sun (Verso il Sole) as an existential symbol of life and energy. Hayato Hirose composed this dramatic piece based on the great journey of Marco Polo, Italian traveller and one of the first Europeans ever to visit Asia. In the 13th century, he made a long journey from Venice to Mongolia with his father. After his arrival, he was sent to the various regions in Asia by the Mongolian government to take notes about the culture, the people, and the way of life in those areas. Celebrate the life of this great explorer with this dynamic new concert work.
