A Panorama of Songs fills a want that has been felt for decades. A selection of songs in six European languages from the 16th to the mid-20th century encompassing every musical period, it seeks to help beginner-level students of voice teachers and repetiteurs, and foremost the singers themselves. The series brings a breath of fresh air and new works to the conventional Lied repertoire, truly offering a new panorama. Using the means of modern technology it also provides immense help in learning and performing the songs. The three volumes of the series are arranged by level of difficulty, and all of them are available for high and low voices (a volumes for high voices, b volumes for low voices). Each volume is a complete unit in itself, including all six languages (English, French, German, Italian, Russian, and Spanish) and presenting a cross-section of styles from the early Baroque to the 20th century. Interpretation of the songs is facilitated by literal English and Hungarian translations of their texts, and the reading of the Cyrillic script is assisted by transliteration (again in English and Hungarian). Ornamentation suggestions for the performance of the Baroque works are also included. The printed music is accompanied by additional useful material to help the learning process, available online at www.emb.hu/downloads. The website contains the piano accompaniments of all of the songs, as well as all the original texts recited by native speakers.

Six Panoramas, a six-part suite by French composer Pascal Proust, sends six greetings in sound from all over the world in the form of panoramic postcards. This SSAA work, originally written for SATB voices celebrates the tenth anniversary of the Masterworks Community Chorale in Newnan, Georgia. The inspirational text is Somewhere I Have Never Traveled, a text by the Yale Theologian, Thomas Troeger. Somewhere I Have Never Traveled has potential for building tone and creating a panorama of colors, while at the same time creating emotional soundscapes, all through a delightful text that creates a dreamlike innocence.
It has been a joy to re-voice this original SATB composition for SSAA voices and to collaborate with Heather Orr at Montgomery High School. In July 2014, my dear friend Kathy Bizarth commissioned me to compose a new work celebrating the tenth anniversary of the Masterworks Community Chorale in Newnan, Georgia. It was in September when we agreed on the inspirational text, Somewhere I Have Never Traveled, a text by the Yale Theologian, Thomas Troeger. I moved to Italy in January for a sabbatical, and in February, I spent four days composing the piece at the Palazzo Bassi Brugnatelli, a dear friend's villa in Robbiate, Italy. Interestingly enough, the middle part of the piece (mm. 30-39) and end of the piece came first (mm. 40-62). Completed in Conegliano in late February, this composition is very special to me as it was the first composition I wrote after my mother died, and it was also composed for a dear friend. I have a profound connection to what I hope will be a deeply inspirational composition to those who sing it. Somewhere I Have Never Traveled has real potential for building tone and creating a panorama of colors, while at the same time creating emotional soundscapes, all through a delightful text that creates a dreamlike innocence. Somewhere I have never traveled is the place I want to be... (Me too.).

This work presents the listener with the wondrous grandeur of one of the great mountain ranges in America, the Sierra Nevada. When the music begins, the listener is greeted with the awakening of an early morning in the Sierras, complete with a mysterious, foggy mist that creates a feeling of complete stillness and peace with the world. As the mist slowly dissipates, hidden forms begin to make their presence known and gradually become a tremendous panorama of grand snow-covered mountain peaks. Grandiose and immense in all their beauty and glory, they stand before you with a sense of undeniable power, extending in all directions as far as the eye can see. Upon closer inspection one can imagine the circling golden eagles, the regal elk and royal stags, all lazily wandering the hills and canyons of conifers that stand tall, reaching for the passing clouds in hopes of gaining a few rays of life-giving sunshine and moisture. Look in another direction and you will see the immense rolling hillsides of colourful wild flowers, fluttering butterflies, birds darting about, sparkling waterfalls and all critters existing in harmony. After the day's activities the sun begins to slip below the horizon, the mist returns, and all living things prepare for another still night of sleep, serenity and the warmth of their secure bedding places.
