A complete set of responsorial psalms for Sundays, solemnities, and feasts of the Lord throughout the three-year Lectionary cycle. About the text: The Abbey Psalms and Canticles find their source in the 1963 English language Grail Translation of the Psalms. The Grail Psalms themselves have their origin in the French Bible de Jerusalem which sought to faithfully capture the text stresses or sprung rhythm, of the original Hebrew. The Grail Psalms underwent minor revisions in the 1980s and 1990s. The release of the document Liturgiam authenticam in 2001 required that the Grail Psalms be revised again for use in Roman Catholic liturgy, this time under the direction of Abbot Gregory Polan and the monks of Conception Abbey. Their careful editing and scholarship produced the Revised Grail Psalms in 2010. However, this translation would undergo further (slight) revisions in 2018 leading to the publication in 2020 of The Abbey Psalms and Canticles About the music: Since their publication in 1994, the psalm refrain settings and psalm tones of Canadian composer Michel Guimont have enjoyed wide popularity in North America. These psalm settings have been included as the lectionary psalter in a number of GIA hymnals and have a harmonic freshness and flexibility in performance that makes them a unique and enduring contribution to the Church’s song.  .

These psalm refrains and Gospel acclamations are crafted to be singable and expressive. For each Sunday and Holy Day, a carefully selected musical refrain is paired with a Gregorian or modern psalm tone with the verse text set under the notation in large print. Through-composed verse settings for a number of the psalms are included, and many refrains have choral harmony. The CD-set contains recordings of all the responsorial psalms and Gospel Acclamations for Sundays, feasts, and solemnities, as well as common seasonal psalms, psalms for funerals, and other music. These psalm settings and acclamations coordinate with WLP’s worship resources but will find a welcome home in any parish setting.

This beautiful collection by Irish composer Liam Lawton reflects the haunting beauty of his own Celtic tradition and carries with it the hope of future days for all people. Ancient Ways, Future Days includes songs of hope, songs of tears, and songs of inspiration for the seasons of the liturgical year, all with a definite Irish flavor! Liam's bright, joyous version of the Magnificat features a strong, uplifting refrain that practically sings itself, while the haunting Celtic strains of Psalm 21: My God, My God create a pensive mood to begin Holy Week. Pieta: The Silence and the Sorrow is a heartfelt song with a stirring vocal solo for Good Friday services. Let Every Human Heart is an uplifting piece, perfect as a closing song during Lent. Ideal for the responsorial psalm or communion processional at funerals or memorial services is the emotional The Lord Will Heal the Broken Heart. As the title of this collection suggests, these stirring melodies will remind us of the wealth left to us by past generations, while uplifting lyrics are certain to inspire us to constantly seek the Lord of future days!

A sampling of the creative psalm settings by this gifted Canadian composer can be found in Gather, Gather Comprehensive, and RitualSong. We are now delighted to offer the responsorial psalms for the entire three-year cycle of Sundays, solemnities, and feasts of the Lord in one volume. The text is drawn from the Lectionary for Mass (NAB translation). The Guimont psalms are unique in that they are suitable for organ, piano, or guitar accompaniment. The thirty-plus original psalm tones offer a harmonic freshness that makes these settings useable week after week without tiring. This one volume is a major resource for every cantor.

Commissioned by an organist for the one-year anniversary of the death of a loved one, these two pieces are based on contrasting psalm verses: The Lord is near to the broken-hearted (Ps.34:18) and I will praise the Lord all my days, making music while I live (Ps. 146.2). Composer Alan Hommerding united these pieces with a common theme, and transforms it as the mourner's spirit is transformed by faith.

Yes, it’s liturgical. Songs like Come, Taste and See, “Hold Us, Jesus,†and “Go Out to the World†will have your cantors, choirs, and assemblies raising their voices. Is this collection good for listening? You bet! “In Your Presence†is inspirational, “Can You See God†is convincing. Some might say there’s a good deal of originality with a slight touch of cleverness in de Silva’s text writing. The verses for “Make a Joyful Noise,†for example, are taken from the Beatitudes, while the refrain draws its inspiration from Psalm 100—a skillful combination. The music is solid, yet fresh, with a contemporary sound. The melodies are memorable, you’ll come away humming the tunes. We’re certain this new release will cross generational lines as well. Both the young and the not-so-young love the fine work Chris is doing at his parish, St. Brendan’s, in the Archdiocese of Los Angeles. We have a feeling your whole parish family will love Chris’s compositions as well. These new songs definitely deserve a listen, and for a very good reason. There’s a lot of “contemporary†music available these days that makes for great listening. But with de Silva there’s a difference—with de Silva, folks just can’t help but sing along. This is Chris’s first collection with GIA, and we warmly welcome him to the GIA family. Contents: Can You See God, We Are One, In Your Presence, Welcome, All Generations Will Praise Your Name, I Will Give Thanks, Among All, Hold Us, Jesus, Listen to My Cry, Come, Taste and See, Make a Joyful Noise, Go Out to the World, God of All.

Today is a new collection of heartfelt songs for worship written and/or arranged for use throughout the church year. Based on the Scriptures, these beautiful songs are appropriate for seasonal use, weddings, funerals, Sundays, or feast days. Already a classic, “Heart of a Shepherd†incorporates a new refrain with the timeless Gelineau chant of the Twenty-Third Psalm. “Psalm 118: Today†is intended as a companion piece for Rory’s setting of Psalm 96 for Christmas. Both use the same motif for the word “today†(“hodie†or “today†in Psalm 96 and “haecdies†or “this day†in Psalm 118). The use of these settings helps to connect the feasts of Christmas and Easter. His stunning arrangement of Psalm 22 brilliantly depicts the intensity of Jesus’ words “Why have you abandoned me?†Each meaningful composition will evoke prayerful participation from your congregation and bring a theological depth to your worship experience.
