The chant-like treatment of the Psalm verses, in addition to creating a simply lovely setting, can also be a great exercise in sensitively conveying the meaning of the words through proper textual stress—a skill that can be applied to less lyrical pieces in the choral repertoire. The voice parts are minimal in scope (each roughly an octave), but the fluctuating accidentals will require some attention for tuning.

This psalm collection is arranged according to liturgical year, with the three-year temporal cycle being followed by solemnities, feasts of the Lord, and national holidays presented in chronological order, everything as it appears in the Oramos Cantando / We Pray in Song hymnal. Most of the musical settings of the 144 pairs of English and Spanish psalm refrains in this collection were composed in 2003 either by Tony Alonso, Ronald Krisman, or John Schiavone. In most cases, each pair of refrains share the same melody, occasionally they are counter-melodies to each other, allowing for both languages to be sung simultaneously. Some refrains were further edited, a few were replaced with new refrains composed by Michel Guimont, Kelly Dobbs Mickus, and Ronald Krisman. The psalm tones of Canadian composer Michel Guimont, which enjoy a wide popularity in North America, are used exclusively in this collection. The Lectionary psalms use USCCB-approved refrains in both English and Spanish and verses from The Revised Grail Psalms and the salterio of Spain's Conferencia Episcopal Española (CEE). These bilingual lectionary psalms have been included in the Sacred Song missalette program of The Liturgical Press since 2004. While this collection may be used as a bilingual Lectionary psalter with any musical resource found in the pew, it is specifically linked to GIA's hymnal Oramos Cantando / We Pray in Song.

Noted composer M. Roger Holland has taken antiphons from the 2010 Roman Missal and paired them with psalm verses, creating compositions that have wide use in the liturgy. Some parishes will want to use these pieces on the appointed day for entrance or communion processionals. Others may find use for them throughout the entire year, perhaps using them as a weekly song through the season. The songs work well as stand-alone processional pieces and many choirs will want to use them as choir anthems or congregational songs during the preparation of the gifts and altar. 'Broken Psalm' was commissioned by Cambridge University to celebrate their 800th anniversary and first performed by the Choir of Gonville & Caius College in 2009. Goehr, who was Professor of music at the university between 1976 and 1999, has assembled verses from psalms 42, 75 and 139 for mixed choir to create a rich, free-flowing sound world. Suitable for good amateur choirs, 'Broken Psalm' would be an ideal repertoire addition from one of the UKs most highly regarded composers.

Dixit Dominus (Ps 109), a psalm setting for double choir, is one of Vivaldi's most significant sacred works. In it, he takes up the old Venetian polychoral tradition, combining its compositional techniques with those of the instrumental concerto, the cantata and the opera. The broadly conceived cycle of movements, consisting of eight psalm verses and the doxology, is characterized by an expansive arch of tonalities connecting the two framing outer movements in D major (these are also thematically related): Dixit Dominus and Gloria Patri. The contrasting and varied inner movements are perfect examples of Vivaldi's skill in vividly portraying linguistic figures in music. Score and part available separately - see item CA.4000700.
