Rosebuds

Dances Of Time is a diverse collection of five choral songs addressing different aspects of time. Texts ranging from biblical to twentieth century are set to Chilcott's attractive and characterful music drawing on elements of dance forms in various styles.The work opens with a rhythmic setting of Henry VIII's famous text 'Pastime with good company' before the contrastingly wistful and reflective 'Today'. The carpe diem sentiment of 'Gather ye rosebuds' is heightened through its setting as a lively jig and in 'To every thing there is a season' a central section presents the paired images of the text from Ecclesiastes enclosed by almosthymn-like outer segments. The infectiously positive 'Life has loveliness' sums up the overall message of the collection: despite the passing of time we can celebrate the present through music and singing.

Dedications-This set includes To Daffodils To the Virgins (‘Gather ye rosebuds while ye may’) To The Willow Tree To Music and To Phillis in a changing palette of musical colours.Twentieth century English composer singer and actress Madeleine Dring wrote songs that frequently employed jazz chords in their accompaniment which has been compared in the US to Gershwin though these warmly lighthearted songs recall English baroque style in some of their Vocal lines and rhythms. The accompaniment is melodic and tonal with many subtle freedoms in the harmonies.

Suitable for Grades 5-6-African-American composer and pianist Scott Joplin achieved fame for his ragtime compositions and was dubbed the 'King of Ragtime Writers'. During his brief career he wrote 44 original ragtime pieces one ragtimeballet and two operas. One of his first pieces the 'Maple Leaf Rag' became ragtime's first and most influential hit and has been recognized as the archetypal rag.Scott Joplin Orange includes 5 greatpieces for Grade 5-6 solo Piano from the 'King of Ragtime Writers'. Løft mig kun bort / Come lift me up (for mixed chorus SSA*) *) the second movement may be performed by a children’s chorus or by the female voices (SSA) from a mixed chorus Programme note From my very first aquaintance with these Andersen poems I was deeply moved by the simple almost naive yet evocative imagery with which Andersenrealized his visions images like: “The Melody of the Heart” “The Poem of Beauty” “A Spiritual Hindustan” “Fly Death over the Sea of Time fly to Eternal Summer”. Along with this “childishness” Hans Christian Andersen’s poetry encompasses enormous – almost Willim Blake-ish – cosmic visions in the interpolations between e.g. “reaching the Heaven” as opposed to “you’ll find it in a Rosebud” or the juxtaposition of “Everyday Life” and “Eternal Poetry” - which become one. Thus the music came to life in my immediate encounter with these words which almost sang themselves into my Musical Furnace – if you will. Per Nørgård
