This work for flute trio is in no way connected to the famous work of the same name by Antonio Vivaldi. In his Four Seasons, Mario Valsania sees the changing seasons from a child's point of view: Spring, out in the fresh air on abike ride, the unhurried Summer, Autumn and the new school year, and finally Winter, with its Christmas celebrations...This is a composition in a classical style but with advanced, non-traditional harmonies. The composer's aim was to bring out the full richness of the flute's range and character - such as staccato and double-tonguing. InWinter, various traditional Christmas carols can be heard.

For SA and piano Setting a text by Elizabeth Barrett Browning, this thoughtful and evocative piece compares a dying relationship with the changing of the seasons from summer to winter, which McGlade skilfully reflects in her use of minor tonality, falling melodic phrases, and shifting chromaticism.

This is the violin solo part of Philip Glass's wonderful Violin Concerto No. 2 “American Four Seasons.” The piece was commissioned by Toronto Symphony Orchestra and London Philharmonic Orchestra, among others, the world premiere was held in Toronto on December 9th 2009, conducted by Peter Oundjian. At this premiere, the violinist was Robert McDuffie, for whom the Concerto was composed. During the summer and autumn of 2009, Glass composed this work after many years of exchanges with McDuffie. His idea of creating a work that would be influenced by, and an accompaniment to Vivaldi's The Four Seasons. Interestingly, Glass has provided no indication in the score of where each season falls, making it open for interpretation by the performers or the audience.

Moving between major and mixolydian mode, this artistic piece sounds as fresh as the lyrics about the change in seasons. Eighth notes, accidentals, hand-crossings, and use of pedal are sprinkled freely throughout, yet it's still accessible to the late elementary student.
