Second to None is a perfectly suitable title for this work, though it actually refers to “Nulli Secundusâ€, the motto of the British Corps of Army Music, who gave the commission to Philip Sparke. The piece opens with a fanfare, followed by two short quotes from two of the Corp’s own marches and a festive Vivace. A more legato central section creates a nice contrast before the work closes with the opening fanfare. A perfect affair!

Second to None - which can also be played in a shorter version - is an ideal opener for any festive concert.

Program Notes: None But The Lonely Heart is a song from Tchaikovsky's Six Romances, Op. 6 for voice and piano. The song is a setting in Russian translation of Goethe's poem Nur wer die Sehnsucht kennt, which has attracted many composers, most famously Franz Schubert. This is my second orchestration of music by Tchaikovsky, the first being Andante Cantabile from his String Quartet No. 1. I tried to make these transcriptions sound as if they had been orchestrated by the composer himself - as is also the case with my transcriptions of music by Rachmaninoff, Janacek, Bizet, and Revueltas. This is my natural tendency, following the spirit ofthe music. Jose Serebrier Comments: Orchestrated from Tchaikovsky's Six Romances, Op. 6, No. 6.

The name of this book is no exaggeration. It includes some of the most gorgeous music that the authors El McMeen and Sandy Shalk know. To make things even more interesting, none of the music was originally written for guitar. In addition to Celtic favorites, El includes his arrangements of two of the most beautiful arias in all of opera: Che Gelida Manina from Puccinis La Boheme and My Heart at Thy Sweet Voice ôMon Coeur Souvre ? ta Voixö from Samson and Delilah by Camille Saint-Sa?ns. Sandys contributions range from Celtic to French love songs to Stephen Foster, manifesting Sandys gift for chordal subtleties and innovation. Each piece is in either standard tuning EADGBE or Drop D tuning DADGBE .Written in standard notation and tablature with computer generated audio files of each arrangement.

This powerful arrangement, for concert band with optional narrator, is a musical tribute to the 16th President of the United States, Abraham Lincoln. Highly informative, the music traces the life and times of this great man who led the fight for freedom during the infamous Civil War. Dramatic excerpts from some of his best-known speeches are included while Battle Hymn of the Republic, Battle Cry of Freedom, Dixie and Aura Lee have been crafted into an emotionally charged expression of musical reverence. This selection will make a great finale for that very special concert. A real crowd pleaser!
