Trumpet parts in both B flat and E flat simplified piano part and a free CD including piano backing tracks and orchestral performance extracts.Johann Nepomuk Hummel (1778-1837) composed this concerto in 1803 for the keyed trumpet which had been developed by Anton Weidinger (1767-1852). Weidinger gave its first performance on New Year's Day 1804. Originally composed in the key of E it is more commonly played in Eb. The keyed trumpet was the first type of trumpet which could play chromatically but the invention was not a huge success: it suffered from a poor quality of sound. In the early 19th century the invention of the valve rendered the keyed trumpetobsolete.This edition is intended to be more user-friendly than the others currently available: there is a much easier (and dare I say more stylistic) piano accompaniment - any doubling of the solo part has been removed voicing simplified and my premise has been to imagine what it might have been before it was orchestrated rather than trying to cram in every last piece of orchestral detail.Suggested cuts in the piano part have been indicated giving a short introduction to each movement perfect for auditions recitals or exams. However the bar numbers still tally with the longer original versions which are included should they be required. The dynamics and articulation which I have added incorporate the weight of opinion in current editions and recordings offering more guidance than 'scholarly' editions without being overprescriptive.There is an appendix with suggested interpretation of trills and ornaments. Listening to as many different recordings as possible is the best way to assimilate good trills.The accompanying CD provides piano accompaniments and observes the suggested cuts. See page 38 for full track listing. There is free software available online (eg. speedshifter on the ABRSM website) which enables you to change the speed of a CD should you wish to practise slower or indeed faster.The Hummel

Love from a Stranger was a 'thriller' starring Ann Harding and Basil Rathbone based on an Agatha Christie short story Philomel Cottage. As well as Britten's score the film also included excerpts from Grieg'sPeer Gynt music and a contemporary dance band. Not all of the present score was used - No. 3 Brighton was omitted and cuts were made in nos. 5 and 6. In the latter a savage cut deleted the references to themusic of the other numbers in bars 13-20 including the trombone's scale which alludes to a scene in which a child practices the piano unseen. Britten was not happy with the way his music was used and this was to remain hisonly work for the commercial cinema composed in 1936.

Oratorio in three parts-Israel in Egypt HWV 54Oratorio in three partsThe versions of the 1739 and 1756?7 performances The distinguishing feature of our new edition is that it reproduces Israel in Egypt in its complete three-part form: The Lamentation of the Israelites for the Death of Joseph Exodus and Moses? Song. It was in this form that the work was given at its London premiere on 4 April 1739. Handel made extensive changes for the second performance. The reason is often said to have been the audience?s dissatisfaction with the work?s unusual design. However he may possibly only have wanted to satisfy the whims of asoprano who felt under-represented with solo material. Israel in Egypt is made up of a series of contrasting and artfully constructed choruses separated only by a few numbers for solo voice. Part 1 is entirely given to the chorus Part 2 largely so and Part 3 while containing most of the solo numbers still gives ample room to the chorus. Handel shortened several choral numbers and may have taken the opportunity to alter the opening of Exodus. He also added five arias and a recitative for the soprano Elisabeth Duparc. These arias had already been written for insertion in other works of the 1730s and two of them had been sung a short while previously in An Oratorio (1738). There is no libretto containing the changes introduced at the second performance. All the insert arias are reproduced in Appendix 1 of Volume I/14 of the complete edition. The next performance of the piece did not occur until 1756. Handel now compiled an entirely new Part 1 containing a balanced proportion of choral and solo numbers by selecting items from Solomon the Occasional Oratorio and the Peace Anthem. The two other parts retained their original form apart from a few cuts in the choruses and the addition in Part 3 of the aria ?Hope hope a pure and lasting treasure? from the second version of Esther (for both 1756 and 1757) and the aria ?Toss?d from thought to thought? from Alexander Balus (for 1757). Our new edition makes it possible for the first time to perform Israel in Egypt in three different versions: that of the premiere

Johann Sebastian Bach most likely composed the Chromatic Fantasia and Fugue during his stay in Kothen between 1717 and 1723. Originally written for the harpsichord the work was duly recognized as a masterpiece within its ownera.Néstor Ausqui has taken extraordinary measures in creating a guitar transcription of this monumental piece. The fundamental tonality of D minor was retained to preserve the work?s sonority and the 6thstring of the guitar had to be lowered to D to expand the guitar?s range and adhere to the original key.The articulation of the piece often requires the use of the slur technique to maintain and enhance thelegato effect in the melodic line. As the guitar has a more percussive character than the harpsichord various inconveniences occur in the management or execution of the legato but the transcriber has done his best to preservethe character of the original piece.Ausqui admits that the most arduous task was the fingering of the piece. He had to familiarize himself with Bach?s intentions and avoid shortcuts and aberrations which wouldhave depleted the original harmonies and melodies. In the process he discovered that utilization of the open strings can subtly enhance the balance of right and left-hand duties to achieve the timbre the original scoremandates.Written in standard notation only with each line of music forming only one measure this piece is meant for the classical guitarist willing to accept an interpretive challenge to reap enormous musicalbenefits.
