This cheerful set of Eucharistic Acclamations, based on the Christmas melody Resonet in laudibus, was written for assembly, SATB, and organ with optional brass quartet. It is clear that Matthew Koraus knows what works for an assembly. The Holy, Holy and the Amen involve the congregation in a call-and-response fashion, which, combined with the use of a familiar melody, makes it very easy for them to participate. Each of the three memorial acclamations are included, as are two versions of the Amen, one simple and one more involved. For Christmas through the Baptism of the Lord; also appropriate for Advent in a pared down presentation.

“We are, inescapably, filled with Ruah, the Holy Spirit, from our first breath to our last. As Paul reminds the early church in Romans 8:9 ‘you are not controlled by your sinful nature. You are controlled by the Spirit if you have the Spirit of God living in you.’ Paul is reminding us that we are filled with the Ruah of God and so should choose to live accordingly.†                                  – Ian Callanan (from the Introduction)  Drawing on the rich tradition of composer Ian Callanan’s musical background Ruah: Mass of the Breath of God is filled with Celtic themes and motifs. With the exception of the Our Father, the entire Mass is composed in the key of D, the key in which traditional Irish instruments are tuned, making the setting as accessible as possible. The recording models the sound of full Celtic instrumentation, though the setting is just as effective when simple accompaniment is used.  Ruah utilizes the Eucharistic Prayer for Children, yet the choice is by no means meant to be limiting. This is a setting composed with the entire assembly in mind, encouraging all to take a deep breath, then sing with the Ruah of God.  The keyboard accompaniment is printed in the full score.

After ten years of praying, writing, and revising, James Chepponis has emerged with a mass setting that is musically spectacular, liturgically complete, and totally accessible! Whether resources are abundant or limited, whether you prefer a traditional or a contemporary sound, all parishes will feel comfortable with this mass!Jubilation Mass can easily be sung in simple form with only melody and accompaniment of choice (piano, organ, guitar, or a combination), with select pieces requiring a cantor and singing presider. Also, this mass need not be sung in its entirety, individual pieces are self-contained and can be used by themselves. For a fuller sound, or perfect for a special occasion, scoring is available for optional SATB choir, two trumpets, two trombones, timpani, flute/oboe, and handbells. Most importantly, no matter what the style used, congregation parts are wonderfully melodic and very easily learned, making this the perfect mass to teach your parish and use over and over again.
