The Small concerto for solo oboe and chamber orchestra was commissioned by The Royal Library of Copenhagen for the inauguration of a concert hall located at the new library annex, the so-called Black Diamond, September 1999. The work as such focuses more on the contemplative and sonorously introvert, rather than more virtuosity; it is in four movements, what could be called four little tone-poems on (and inspired by) the names of the four moon craters known as: Lake of Dream - Ocean of Storms - Sea of Tranquillity - Lake of Death, four enigmatic and deeply fascinating ancient conceptions of the landscape on this our closest, but at the same time most legendary and myth-shrouded celestial body. The work was composed in 1998 for Athelas-Sinfonietta Copenhagen and Swedish obo virtuoso Helen Jahren. The work was dedicated to Helen Jahren.

Twelve To Remember, Twelve To Come for Trombone and Ensemble was composed by Peter Bruun in 2001. Commisioned by Jesper Juul Sorensen Written for Jesper Juul Sorensen and Athelas Sinfonietta Copenhagen, provided with funds from the Danish State Art Foundation. Programme note: The trombone concerto has been given the slightly cryptic title Twelve to remember twelve to come. The title refers to twelve irregular beats that are struck at the start of the piece by the percussionist on three clanging bottles. The figure 12 later becomes the most important building-block in the rhythm of the piece, and the twelve beats from the beginning return right at the end. The concerto waswritten for the trombone virtuoso Jesper Juul Sorensen, originally for trombone and large chamber ensemble. It was given its first performance in 2001 by Jesper Juul Sorensen and Athelas Sinfonietta Copenhagen. Later the piece was reworked for trombone and orchestra - a version given its first performance by Jesper Juul Sorensen and the Aarhus Symphony Orchestra in 2003. Peter Bruun. The Saxophone Concerto Saivo paints a musical portrait of a saxophonist of a new kind. The word saivo originates from the ancient Sami beliefs meaning a two-bottomed lake, where under a lake dwells another lake and another world which is inhabited by otherworldly creatures - a world that is the exact mirror image of our world. The saxophone concerto builds sonorous timbral bridgesbetween the effected soprano saxophone and the orchestra, and grows eventually into an illusion of another reality which is similar, yet in a peculiar way different than the world we know. The work was commissioned by Tapiola Sinfonietta and it is dedicated to the saxophonist Jukka Perko. Premiere Nov. 17, 2017 - Tapiolasali, Espoo, Finland Tapiola Sinfonietta, cond. Anna-Maria Helsing Jukka Perko, Soprano Saxophone and effects Solo sax. part: WH33005C Parts are available on hire: hire@ewh.dk.

Dit contrastvolle werk bestaat uit drie kleurrijke, levendige en melodische delen: Calixto III, Els Canalsund Foguera i Festa. Three compositions which belong together were written by Tihanyi in 1991-1992: Winterszenen, Nachtszene (night Scene) and Irrlichtspiel (Will o? the wisp). The Irrlichtspiel composition for violin solo and 19 instruments ensemble, came out of the notes for the song entitled Irrlicht in the fifth scene of Winterszenen (...this composition exactly follows the musical process of Winterreise by Schubert...). Here, the starting point was the refrain-like, pregnant rhythm motive, attached to the piano introduction of the Schubert song. At the end of the first part called Prelude, a miniature exposition prepares for the five developments. Their titles are: Adagio, Capriccio, Monolog, Pantomime and Postludio. World premi?re: Budapest, 30 April, 1996. Ildiko Line ? violin, Budapest Sinfonietta, conducted by Gergely Vajda.

Full score for Bent Sorensen's Birds And Bells, a Concerto for Trombone and Orchestra. Birds and Bells was composed in 1995 for the Swedish trombonist Christian Lindberg. As the title suggests it is not a 'roaring' trombone concerto but rather a 'pianissimo concerto' filled with the contents of the title. It must be emphasized that 'bells' here has nothing to do with death or destruction which connoisseurs of my music might be tempted to think. The work is in three movements which are played without a break. The second movement ends with a kind of 'pseudo-nightingale cadenza', and I feel the third to be a slow lullaby. oBirds and Bellso was premiered on 30 April 1996, with Christian Lindberg and the Aarhus Sinfonietta conducted by Soren K. Hansen. Bent Sorensen. Solo Trombone part also available: 14042072.
