Duets For Two Acoustic Guitars-The Christmas season has always been special to me. It is a season that has crystallized the hopes aspirations and faith of millions of people through the centuries. The amount of music written for Christmas is monumental.This book contains 14 scores from my Christmas Guitar Portraits recording. I selected various genres dear to me.First there are selections from the early American sacred song tradition. The Babe of Bethlehem Cherry Tree Carol A Star in the East The Shepherd's Star A Virgin Unspotted and I Wonder As I Wander all are from this rich heritage.I also picked a number of carols from theOld English genre. Away In The Manger Green Grow'th the Holly and What Child is This are included.Then there are the Christmas favourites. In the Bleak Mid-winter and a medley ofBaloo Lammy; The First Noel and Silent Night make any Christmas complete. Let All Mortal Flesh Keep Silence is one of my favourite Advent hymns. Gaudete Christus est natus is arousing carol dating back many centuries.Finally I included two originals. Lullay My Liking is an ancient carol text. Many composers over the centuries have written melodies to these lyrics most notably GustavHolst. I could not resist the temptation so the melody here is original. Finally Christmas Prayer is a new composition. I have always wanted to compose and arrange music designed to bring the Plectrum or Flatpick Guitarto the concert stage. These arrangements were written with that in mind.

Arranged For Classical Guitar-These selected works by Giovanni Antonio Terzi expertly arranged by 2011 GFA Winner Vladimir Gorbach represent a last flowering of the lute fantasia in a motet-imitative style. They stand at ahalfway point between being dependent upon vocal forms and being a product of pure instrumental fantasy.Of the sixteen pieces with 'fantasia' in the title eleven are of Terzi's own invention. A collection of 28 Ernesto Nazareth compositions expertly transcribed for classic guitar solo. One of the major difficulties in trying to arrange Ernesto Nazareth?s themes for any instrument but the piano is to separatethe melodic line from its accompaniment: both are so closely together (that is one of the strongest characteristics of his pianistic style of composition) that it becomes almost impossible to treat one of the features disregardingthe other. If one did that the result would be only a pale and incomplete portrait of what was intended by the composer. That thought has guided us in the making of this book. In spite of the huge obstacles that resulted from thetransposition of a piece originally written for the piano a very rich instrument regarding the expressive recourses to the more 'modest' guitar we always kept in mind our principal intention: to preserve at the most all themelodic dialogues of the scores in special the ones between the melody and the bass line both the elements that form the soul of Nazareth?s compositions. We obviously had to do some changes. Thus for instance in somearrangements it was necessary to transpose the original key to a more appropriate one (at the guitar view-point of course). Some phrases or fragments had also to be written an octave higher or lower (that can be perfectlyunderstandable if we consider the very wide melodic range of the piano and the extensive way with which Nazareth uses it). Needless to say that all those recourses were used only when it has been strictly necessary. Despite thefact that those 28 pieces are only a little portion of Nazareth?s work this group of arrangements represents a good and representative panel. Among them there are some of Nazareth?s greatest hits ('Apanhei-te Cavaquinho' 'Odeon' 'Brejeiro' 'Ameno Resedá' etc.) as well as other not so known compositions but no less beautiful and important.
