The idea of a violin concerto came from Stravinsky‘s publisher at the time Willy Strecker from Schott and violinist Samuel Dushkin. Stravinsky even noted in his autobiography that the availability of advice from Dushkin‘s was a factor in writing the piece. He also sought the opinions of composer and violinist Paul Hindemith who reassured Stravinsky about his concerns with writing for an instrument he was unfamiliar with. The help he received may have helped Stravinsky discover new possibilities for the instrument.

Par STRAVINSKY IGOR. This transcription of Suite italienne is the first full-scale composition by Igor Stravinsky to enter the double bass solo repertoire. Brian Powell, Associate Professor of Double Bass at the Frost School of Music, University of Miami, has adapted the versions of Suite italienne for violin and for cello as best suits the double bass. Moreover, he has widened the selection of movements, thus continuing a practice Stravinsky established with his instrumental collaborators (Dushkin and Piatigorsky) of allowing the performers to select material from the ballet Pulcinella. In this case the movements comprise Introduzione, Serenata, Aria, Vivo, Tarantella, Gavotta con due variazione, Scherzino and Minuetto e Finale. The Vivo movement is derived directly from the orchestral Pulcinella Suite: widely recognised by classical bassists as one of the most significant solos in the orchestral repertoire, the bass part is faithfully reproduced as in the original score. Suite italienne has music that will appeal to bassists of various performance levels – solo, chamber and orchestral bassists alike will appreciate different aspects of this music. Burlesque in vier Szenen-A terrific Piano Duet arrangement of Stravinsky's burlesque in four scenes based on the 1947 revised version. Originally completed in 1911 Petrouchka was the second of Stravinsky's great ballets and is one of the most famous ballet scores of the twentieth century equally at home in the concert hall as in the theatre. Igor Stravinsky's Renard is a one-act opera that tells a burlesque tale of a devious fox who deceives a number of other animals. This corrected and revised edition of the Vocal Scoreis edited by Millan Sachania. Renard was composed in 1916 after being commissioned by socialite Winaretta Singer. The lyrics of the work are in Russian Russian transliteration and French.Renard is often seen by critics as a satire either on political or religious themes with Renard the fox and the other farmyard animals symbolising key figures of authority at the time. Igor Stravinsky was still three years away from the incendiary premiere of his ballet The Firebird in Paris when he wrote the Pastorale from which this Alleluia has been adapted. The Pastorale was originally scored as a songwithout words for Soprano and Piano and dedicated to his teacher Rimsky-Korsakov’s daughter Nadia. Stravinsky himself transcribed it several times over several decades for a variety of ensembles.In this version the simple text‘Alleluia’ has been added parts for three Voices devised and an optional Piano accompaniment added.

Composed in 1902 it is a miracle that Stravinsky's Scherzo in G minor survives at all. Most of the pieces from his extreme youth were lost with the fall of the Russian Empire. But the Scherzo was found among the scores presented by the estate of Nicolai Ivanovich Richter a pianist and friend of Stravinsky's youth to the Soviet government and it was published in facsimile in 1972.
