On the workWritten originally for swing band in the 1970's in a work called A Minor Excursion I chose a rather bland tune for this suite. What originally brought this work alive was the improvisation and variation of the tune. Therefore this suite is a set of variations on the opening movement and I did this in homage to the original work. For me it's the following movements which make the work. The Prelude is just a simple statement of the theme with a small middle eight section which hints at the work's origin as a jazz piece. The rest of the movements grow from the opening and explores the Prelude in various ways. This is really jazz meets symphonic development. The theme can be clearly heard in all the movements but as the work reaches its conclusion the theme becomes more and more fragmented. The first performance was given on 20 November 1993 at Saint Edmund's Church, Village Way, Beckenham, Kent by the Bromley Oecumenical Singers and Orchestra, conducted by Tomas Creagh-Fuller. Byron Adams's Suite in Olden Style for organ solo looks back at Baroque forms in a contemporary manner. This score can be played in its entirety, but each movement can be played singly and in any combination with any other movement as the player sees fit. The four movements that comprise the Suite in Olden Style are appropriate for either a religious service or in recital.
The first movement, Sinfonia, is based on the Advent chorale Nun komm, der Heiden Heiland (Savior of the Nations, come). The second movement is a reflective fugue, while the third movement is a pensive Siciliana. The last movement, Rigaudon, is extroverted, lively, and brilliant.

Suite Siciliana is a true tribute to this beautiful island, a piece composed by seven dances in the musical form typical of the baroque period. Divertimento, an early work of Franco Cesarini, illustrates the composer's love of popular song. A piece characterised by skillful instrumentation and meticulous attention to balance and form. Le Cortège du Roi Renaud is a suite in five parts based on tales that originate in southern European folk songs dating back as far as the 16th century. Pastorale de Provence, a suite in four movements, was written by Franco Cesarini in memory of the great Provençal composer Darius Milhaud. As the title says, Greek Folk Dances is entirely in the sign of Greek dances starting with a kalamatianos, followed by a zeibekiko. The piece ends with a hasapiko. A perfect mix of new and less new repertoire, perfectly composed and arranged for double wind quintet by Franco Cesarini and beautifully performed by the Rovereto Wind Ensemble!
