The Pageant of London is his only work for wind band, comprising of two marches, one scored from Bridge’s best known organ piece and including the chimes ofBig Ben, plus three short renaissance pastiche items, one arranged from Playford (later used by Peter Warlock in Capriol Suite). The music is tuneful, approachable and, in the words of wind band ‘legend’ Timothy Reynish makes a fine alternative toHolst’s two suites, which were composed around the same time. Reynish has introduced this work to concert bands right across the world. It has been performed in USA and the Far East, recorded by the celebrated Kosei Wind Orchestra of Japan and alsoby the BBC National Orchestra of Wales in the Chandos edition of Bridge Orchestral Music./ Répertoire / Orchestre D'Harmonie

Norfolk is one of the most beautiful counties in England famous for its charming villages and boundless broads a popular centre for sailing holidays. It is also the home of one of the best known of all British composers Sir Malcolm Arnold. The date of the premiere of this piece was to fall close to his 80th birthday so Philip Sparke decided to write something of a birthday tribute. Some of Arnold’s best-loved orchestral works are his sets of dances: there are two sets of English Dances Four Scottish Dances Four Cornish Dances etc. most of which have been arranged for concert band at one time or another. Philip Sparke thought it would be appropriate for the concert band tohave its own set of dances and wrote Four Norfolk Dances very much in the style of Arnold’s suites.

Malgré tous les problèmes rencontrés lors du changement d?une double monarchie à un petit État l?Autriche est devenue indépendante. Avec Austrian Overture (Ouverture autrichienne) Thomas Doss regarde vers l?avenir. La première partie de cette pièce apporte une vision optimiste. La joie et l?énergie sont présentes et enrichies d?un certain humour musical : pendant que les cors expriment cette joie avecpuissance on entend la ronde infinie des pittoresques jodlers. Tandis que le rythme semble partir explorer de nouvelles pistes des airs accrocheurs entrent en concurrence.L?Autriche n?est pas seulement énergie et frénésie elle regorge aussi de mille paysages tranquilles qui permettent à chacun d?apprécier le calme et la beauté naturelle. Ces aspects - autant que la liberté d?esprit et la vie culturelle - sont exprimés dans la deuxième partie de l?œuvre : des suites d?accords étonnantes un phrasé romantique et de douces mélodies. Mais la vie n?est pas un long fleuve tranquille : la créativité l?ambition et le travail sont les moteurs de notre existence. Adoptant cette idée une reprise de la première partie apporte une fin captivante.

Le Papillon qui tapait du pied-Rudyard Kipling (1865-1936) est l?un des plus célèbres écrivains de langue anglaise. Né à Bombay en Inde ce journaliste poète et romancier reçoit le prix Nobel de littérature en 1907. On lui doit notamment les célèbres ouvrages Le Livre de la Jungle (1894) Histoires comme ça (1902) et Kim (1901) entre autres. Rudyard Kipling a sillonné le monde glanant de-ci de-là des mots et des merveilles à raconter aux petits et aux grands. Aujourd?hui encore ses Histoires comme ça enchantent par leur drôlerie et leur poésie ; de délicieux récits d?animaux entre l?Inde et l?Afrique initialement écrits pour sa fille Joséphine qui mourut en 1899 des suites d?unegrippe.Le Papillon qui tapait du pied est un des douze contes du recueil Histoires comme ça. Maxime Aulio s?en est inspiré pour créer une œuvre qui s?inscrit dans la tradition de l?impressionnisme musical français. Le saxophone baryton solo incarne le Roi Salomon fils de David ; les flûtes jouent le couple de papillons ; une clarinette est la Reine Balkis - la Sage Balkis de Saba - tandis que les trompettes et les cornets représentent les Djinns. Les personnages évoluent dans un décor orchestral merveilleux à l?image des jardins et du palais du Roi Salomon. / The Butterfly That Stamped (Le Papillon qui tapait du pied) est une œuvre de commande pour la Fédération Musicale d?Auvergne (France) avec le soutien du Conseil Régional d?Auvergne à l?occasion du 10e anniversaire de l?Orchestre Régional d?Harmonie École. L?œuvre a été donnée en création le 30 avril 2006 au Théâtre Municipal d?Aurillac. L?Orchestre Régional d?Harmonie École d?Auvergne était placé sous la direction de Claude Kesmaecker avec en soliste Alexandre Doisy saxophone baryton.

Rondeau of the Shepherds ' so ran the official title of the famous Dutch Christmas carol ‘Midden in de winternacht’. In 1948 wrote Dutch poet and writer Harry Prenen this text. The melody is known by the 17th/18th- century organ composers of suites Daquin Balbastre and Dandrieu. 'Rondeau of the Shepherds' was subtitled 'Catalan Christmas Carol'. The song itself is because its origins in a Spanish (Catalan probably) Christmas song from the late Middle Ages 'El Desembre congelat. The motives of this song (shepherds flutes drums) demonstrate knowledge of the Bible and give a picture of the late medieval Christmas experience. . Perfect as an uptempo intermezzoin a church service.
