J. S. Bach's French Overture In B Minor BWV 831 was published along with the Italian Concerto as the second half of the Clavier-Ãœbung II in 1735. This suite in B minor was originally scored fortwo-manual Harpsichord and is the longest Keyboard suite ever composed by Bach with eleven movements.An earlier version of this work exists in the key of C minor (BWV 831a); the work was transposed into B minorto complete the cycle of tonalities in Parts One and Two of the Clavier-Ãœbung.The term overture refers to the fact that this suite starts with an overture movement replacing the allemande found in Bach's otherKeyboard suites. There are optional dance movements both before and after the Sarabande and another unusual aspect of this work is the inclusion of an extra movement after the Gigue. This is an 'echo' a piece meant to exploit theterraced loud and soft dynamics of the two-manual Harpsichord. J.S. Bach’s four Orchestral Suites belong to that select group of works one could truly call classical hits! They stem from Bach’s extremely productive time in Cöthen which ended in 1721. Unfortunately the only sources that have come down to us are copyist parts from Leipzig. These originally formed the basis for the critical complete edition volume which was published in 1967 as part of the “New Bach Edition”. At that time Bärenreiter also issued separate scores and parts which however were prepared with additional articulation and performance suggestions. Six Suites - Vol. 1 for Alto Recorder is the first volume of a series of two by J. S. Bach. Initially composed for Cello between 1717 and 1723 it was transcribed by Jean-Claude Veilhan and features the Suites I II and III. The transcription keeps the original key and only some passages have to be played one octave higher than in the original sheet. The first suite BWV 1007 is in G major and contains a Prelude an Allemande a Courante a Sarabande two Minuets and a Guigue. Its Prelude is the most famous movement of the whole set of Suites consisting mainly of only arpeggiated chords. It can be heard in manyfilms and is highly recognisable. The second one BWV1008 is in D minor and held the same movements' organisation. Its prelude in two parts features a cadenza which leads to other cadenzas in the Allemande. The Minuet part is quite technical to play. Finally the third one BWV 1009 in C major sees the Minuets being replaced by Bourrées which are often played together as a solo material. The second Bourrée only has a partial signature and the Allemande has a rhythm quite unique for the piece as it includes three semiquavers instead of one. These suites also exist arranged for Piano for Trombone and for many other instruments.

French Overture BWV 831-This new edition of Bach's French Suites (BWV 812-817) pairs these works with the large-scale French Overture in B minor (BWV 831) from the second part of the Clavier-bung. It brings together on the one hand six essentially small-format keyboard suites of moderate difficulty and on the other the most extensive and substantial of Bach's sets of suites.The player is provided with as clear and comprehensible a score as possible and makes it easier to approach the work while those of an academic bent can refer to the Editorial Report for a documentation of sources editorial additions and ornaments of a comprehensiveness otherwise found only in critical completeeditions.
