This four-movement piece was designed as a double quartet and, as the title implies, is like a little symphony. The varied sound is the result of harmonics, glissandos, pizzicatos, fingerboard and instrument body tapping, solo and ensemble playing. The musical palette ranges from lyrical to jazz, from pathos to absurdity.'Sinfonia piccola' was premiered by students of the Wurzburg Music Academy at the First International Double Bass Competition and Workshop in 1978 on the Isle of Man.* This work is part of the Hummel Bass Ensemble Project.

Belgium singer, actor, and composer Jacques Brel (1929-1978) wrote the music and lyrics for Ne me quitte pas (If You Go Away) in 1959. The song was later adapted with English lyrics by Rod McKuen, and the work is considered a pop standard with recordings by many artists. This orchestration was completed by Richard Hayman (1920-2014), who had a very successful career as chief music arranger for the Boston Pops Orchestra, an association that lasted over 50 years, and who also served as a pops conductor for various orchestras including the Detroit Symphony Orchestra, the St. Louis Symphony, and the Grand Rapids Symphony. Instrumentation: 2.2.2.2: Sax(4-SATB, opt.): 4.3.3.1: Timp.Perc(5): Hp.Gtr(opt.): Str (9-8-7-6-5 in set).

Allegro Brillante is the first movement of Dragonland for band. The first performance (under the original title, A Short Symphony) was given by the L.E. Dieruff High School Concert Band, conducted by Raymond S. Becker, Jr., on April 21, 1978. The work was subsequently revised, and first performed in its new version by the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire Symphony Band, conducted by Donald S. George, on November 23rd, 1980. Allegro Brillante is the first movement of four. The music is almost profligate in its tunefulness, quick to change tack and tempo, and will benefit from an interpretation of headstrong abandon. Lev KoganKlezmer Dance Suite for clarinet, strings, percussion, and tubaarranged by Alan Kaufman, with cadenzas by Gene KavadloScore and one copy each partI have been Principal Clarinetist with the Charlotte Symphony Orchestra, North Carolina, since 1975. My interest in klezmer music began in 1984 when I realized how unique the clarinet voice can be in the klezmer idiom - it is totally different from playing in a symphony orchestra, and I found that unique voice to be very appealing. I formed a quartet called Viva Klezmer!, and we have been concertizing and recording ever since.I discovered Lev Kogan's Hassidic Tunes for Clarinet and Piano a number of years ago and was struck by the lovely melodies and harmonies that Mr. Kogan had composed. The tunes were always enjoyed by audiences whenever I performed them, and it occured to me that several of them could be orchestrated and grouped together to form a very attractive klezmer suite. I enlisted the aid of my talented colleague, Alan Kaufman, and the result is this publication. There is dearth of klezmer music featuring clarinet with orchestra or chamber ensemble, and this publication helps fill that void. The suite can be performed with orchestra or, if percussion and tuba are unavailable, as chamber music with clarinet and strings. In the absence of tuba, the part may be played by another bass instrument.Gene KavadloLev Kogan (1927-2007) was born in Baku, Azerbaijan, and immigrated to Israel in 1972. Kogan attended the Moscow State Conservatory from 1946-1952 where he studied piano and was a composition of Aram Khatchturian. He has devotred much time to the research, creation and performance of Jewish music. In Israel, he has composed many productions for the Yiddish theater and Chassidic, Yiddish songs and chamber music.Originally from New York State, Alan Kaufman graduated from Potsdam State University with a Bachelor's Degree in Music Education and a Master's Degree in Music Performance in Percussion. Since then, he has been a performer, arranger, educator, producer and composer of commercial jingles, recordings and movie and television soundtracks. He has produced albums and/or has arranged for an array of groups from The Buddy Rich Band to performing with artists as diverse as Luciano Pavoratti and Bernadette Peters, to Dave Brubeck and Johnny Cash. Since 1978, Alan has resided in Charlotte, NC where he continues his musical journey.

“Composed in 1978 by Henri Dutilleux, Timbres, Space, Movement is a work for Orchestra, also named ?The starry night? after a painting by Van Gogh. It was commisioned by Mstislav Rostropovich for the National Symphony Orchestra of Washington and is dedicated to Charles Münch. This great orchestral work lasts approximately 20 minutes and depicts the content of the painting. It is written for a full orchestra without Violins or Violas. A sketch of the placement of the instruments is given in the book as its disposition differs from a full orchestra: The Cellos placed in a half-circle in front of the conductor. The Cellos represents the space with twirling solos and more stagnant sections while the lack of Violins and Violas is for the quiet and motionless part of the painting. The solo of the Winds and Drums characterizes the clouds and the light of the moon and the stars. It is divided in two parts: 1. Nébuleuse (Nebula) and 2.Constellations, which are divided by a Cello interlude. Henri Dutilleux was internationally acclaimed for his work winning prizes such as the Gold Medal of the Royal Philharmonic Society and the UNESCO's International Rostrum of Composers, amongst many others. His work also includes a Piano sonata, two symphonies, the Violin concerto 'L'arbre des songes' (The tree of dreams) and the Cello concerto 'Tout un monde lointain' (A whole distant word).â€.

The book by Constantin Floros is an expanded new issue of his 1979 Mozart-Studien I. The collection of papers and essays from 1963 to 1978 published at that time has been augmented by several more recent studies. Whereas the earlier texts concern Mozart's overtures, operas, and symphonies, together with especially the stylistic levels of his opera music and church music in general, the more recent articles deal with topics such as merriment and melancholy, tragedy and comedy or cantabile qualities, including stage aesthetics or questions of reception as well. The collected works document the Greco-German author's lifelong engagement with Mozart's music.
