Dedicated to the first worldwide hit in 5/4 - Take Five, Gimme Five! uses a rhythm that is identical to the classic jazz hit. It also reflects the semi-modal approached used by saxophonist Paul Desmond when he performed one of the few jazz melodies that is instantly recognisable. This swinging piece will bring back memories of the Dave Brubeck Quartet and will be extremely popular with both players and audiences. Oltre all'assomiglianza ritmica, i due brani condividono l'approccio semi-modale utilizzato da Paul Desmond.

Perfect for pops concerts, SUITE NO. 3 provides a quaint time capsule of jazz-inspired classical music from 1939, soon after Gershwin’s death, and just before the hard-edged modern jazz of the 1940s. In this fast-slow-fast suite, “Take Five†refers only to relaxing for a few minutes (not the song composed decades later), and “B-Bop Major†is a musical pun that must have been added later.

Take Seven is a tried and trusted showpiece with audience appeal. The title Take Seven is of course a play on Paul Desmond's famous Take Five and its recording by the Dave Brubeck Quartet. As there, the rhythms in this piece are largely based on an asymmetric metre - in this case, 7/4 time. Unlike most jazz pieces with an uneven metre, however, Take Seven goes through various moods, sections and tempo changes, illuminating the main theme from different angles.

Yep, it's in 4/4 not 5/4. A clever chart on a super classic that everyone will recognize, young or old. The bossa nova tempo is around 130 BPM and there are written suggested solos for piano and alto sax. Lead trumpet range is to written B-flat above the staff, and an interlude reoccurs to offer contrast. It all works great! Take Five has been skillfully arranged by John Zontek. (4:50).
