Commissioned for the 7th edition of DROME DE GUJITARE, this piece was created at the theater of the city of Valencia, on October 27, 2023, under my direction by the D.D.G guitar orchestra. It pays tribute to the memory of my friend Roland Dyens. The 1st movement, quite brief (1 minute), emphasizes a motif which metamorphoses into a harmonious accompaniment of the themes of the 2nd movement (5 minutes) LIGHT, this in calm and serenity. This 2nd movement fades at the end to reveal a motif which accelerates to give a burlesque and clumsy dance: DANCE ELEPHANTASQUE (3 minutes) with an obsessive theme which concludes this work.

For Three Aspects of Kurt Weill Peter Kleine Schaars took inspiration from the three periods that characterise the life of Weill - he successivelylived in Berlin, Paris and New York. One theme is used to create threetotally different atmospheres, a protest march against the fascists inBerlin, a French Musette (valse de Paris) and an American big bandstyle Broadway orchestra. Let this great work show the versatility ofyour concert band! James Curnow explores many domains of sound with this wonderful piece. Four extensive variations, based on the melody of the hymn All Praise to You, Oh Lord, together form a beautiful piece of music for use in church services. The composer has a fresh view of the theme in the various fragments of the melody, from ethereal reflections to passionate joy. The last variation starts softly but energetically, and keeps developing using the last phrase of the melody - until the majestic highlight of this glorious hymn begins.

In late 1950s Brazil, a new music style influenced by jazz arose out of the samba: the bossa nova. This composition by Peter Kleine Schaars sounds just like a bossa nova should sound: catchy, warm, relaxed and with a touch ofsensuality. Starting with a small group of players with only one soloist and minimal accompaniment, this bossa nova leads to a style-conscious grand orchestration for the whole ensemble, in which all voices participate equally. Inaddition to the rhythmic cells 2 and 4 of the Brazilian 2-3 clave, the cells 7 and 10 in particular are featured.

Following the spectacular movie Titanic, the story of the world famous ship stood in the spotlights once again. Piet Swerts was inspired by this catastrophic saga to compose this beautifully narrative piece, reflecting the masses of people in Southampton, playing children and the undulating sea. The piece gradually picks up impetuously culminating with the looming iceberg and the dramatic sinking of the Titanic.
