The Twelve Preludes (Chicago 1952-53) show with vivid clarity the many-sided expressive genius of their composer. Each prelude is a musical entity each has its own 'raison d'être' its own musical message. Taken as a whole the twelve form a work with an exhaustive range of expression running the complete gamut of musical ideas ideas which are in the words of Alfred Frankenstein referring to these pieces pungent lyrical and musico-philosophic. All of the preludes are built in various compositional forms some in 'strict' form others in a free unbounded or through composed form. Throughout the twelve pieces are found numerous clever uses of stylistic rhythmic patterns anddevices which characterize Tcherepnin's music. The pieces stem from the period of Tcherepnin's composition which is designated by many as his neo-romantic period and are rich in singing melodic lyricism yet they are in essence fresh and completely 'contemporary' in style and content.

This edition takes the highlights from the successful Schott Clarinet Library series and gathers them into one anthology. The varied collection provides a comprehensive repetory for lessons, concerts and competitions. Russian-born composer pianist and conductor Alexander Tcherepnin was particularly known for his cosmopolitan style that included influences from France and the Far East. This piece composed in 1932 is no exception and provides a lively and challenging addition to conventional repertoire.

The New International Edition of Suzuki Piano School Volume 4 includes French German and Spanish translations as well as a newly recorded CD performed by internationally renowned recording artist Seizo Azuma. Now the book and CD can be purchased together or separately. The contents have changed to include a new piece Tcherepnin's 'Bagatelle.' Mozart's 'Minuet III' and 'Minuet VIII ' from 8 Minuets have been removed and Bürgmuller's 'Arabesque' and 'By the Limpid Stream' have been moved here from Book 5. Les pièces de ce recueil sont basées sur une libre variation de motifs. Si certaines des techniques utilisées - renversement, rétrogradation, renversement rétrograde - sont associées à la musique sérielle ou dodécaphonique, ces pièces ne sont absolument pas sérielles dans un sens strict. Elles ne sont pas non plus tonales ou atonales. J'ai cherché un langage qui naît de la liberté d'expression, plutôt que de la contrainte de règles et de paramètres d'écriture. Certaines pièces sont un écho rythmique au jazz ou au blues, d'autres une couleur de 20e siècle contemporain / classique (mais qu'est-ce que le contemporain ? Quelle année ? Pour qui ?). Tempo, dynamique, articulation sont laissés à la libre appréciation de l'interprète. J'espère que ces jeux, ces voyages musicaux vous conduiront vers des terres inconnues.
