Doors is a set of four pieces, for string quartet and tuba, is based on photographs by Albuquerque photographer Jim Gale. The first movement, Stone-Layered Maze, creates an atmosphere of mystery. The music moves as if through openings in a maze of layered stone walls. It incorporates the use of rocks as an additional sound source.Old Leaning Lumber paints an aural picture of old, dilapidated wooden structures with open doors and windows. The music creaks, sways, and falls. The string players occasionally tap on their instruments to add a percussive wooden timbre. The third movement is based on an eclectic collection of door photos from all types of structures, from all parts of town. Out About Town has the performers tapping the heels and toes of their shoes on the floor in this contrapuntal stroll with an asymmetrical meter.Blue Door Blues is an actual blues tune inspired by the multitude of blue doors seen throughout the southwest United States. Even the blue church doors have their moment in the middle of the piece as the audience hears both an old-world chant and a gospel riff. The performers add to the mix with a few cool finger snaps.- Lon W. Chaffin.

The composer was inspired to write these pieces by the Corridor Quartet (Gyorgy Lakatos, Mihaly Duffek, Zsofia Stefan, and Sara Rebeka Toth), with their open attitude to music and their enchanting sound world. The timbres of the bassoon harmony are emphasised still more by being joined by the double bass, and by a voice or flute soaring above them. One reviewer writes of the CD Corridoors:'Easy to listen to, but modern: modern, and yet easy to listen to. And because of the sound of the bassoons, it's spiced with a kindof fantasy mood, a kind of ''Lord of the Rings'' feel.'(jazzma.hu, Karoly Gaspar) The name of the Corridor Quartet refers to a corridor that leads the listeners between different centuries, styles, and genres. It joins things together, and acts as a bridge, many doors opening off from it: classical, modern and folk, jazz and rock. Tibor Csuhaj-Barna is a jazz double bass player and composer, and an associate professor (DLA) at the Liszt Ferenc Academy of Music.Over the last 30 years he has been an active performer on the Hungarian jazz scene, compiling and playing on many CDs. He has written music for theatres, choirs, and jazz lineups ranging from duos to big band.

Hungarian composer, pianist and ethnomusicologist Béla Bartók (1881-1945) wrote this collection of five fairly difficult piano pieces in 1926, his 'piano year.' Although often referred to as a suite, IM FREIEN (OUT OF DOORS) appears to have not been thought of as a suite by Bartók himself. The work is a rarity also in that Bartók's works did not commonly use programmatic titles: 1. With Drums and Pipes, 2. Barcarolla, 3. Musettes, 4. Musiques Nocturnes, 5. The Chase.
