Flute And Guitar Duets For Any Occasion. A unique collection of duets, which will provide a wide ranging selection of high-quality music to flautists and guitarists. Pieces include well-known classics, lesser-known yet captivating pieces and some original compositions. The accompanying recording allows the listeners to hear both parts simultaneously, to facilitate learning the pieces. It also allows for either of the instruments to be turned off completely so that an individual instrumentalist can use the recording as their playing partner. The guitar part for each piece is written in several ways to accommodate players of all abilities. Standard notation is provided for classically trained guitarists, tablature is also provided, and each piece includes simplified chord names along with a suggested strum.

Between the late 19th century and the early 1960s French music experienced a Golden Age during which the flute played a prominent role: this age-old instrument played by fauns and shepherds spun numerous arabesques whose sensuous contours seemed to celebrate ?the mysterious connections between nature and the imagination? (Debussy). It was therefore quite tempting to draw on the rich catalogue of French works from the Editions Leduc and Heugel and put together this collection of pieces for flautists in the fourth year of study and up. It?s simply impossible to resist the compelling lyricism that floats up from such celebrated pages asFauré?s Sicilienne or the Pièce en forme de Habanera a composition by Ravel superbly transcribed by Theodore Doney. Philippe Gaubert?s Orientale and Sicilienne ? two bestsellers ? are also included. Original pieces such as the Aria for flute and piano by Roussel rub shoulders with delightful arrangements such as the one by Marcel Moyse based on Jacques Ibert?s gentle Histoires or the successful adaptation of Hahn?s À Chloris; while famous pieces ? like Debussy?s Le Petit Nègre ? nestle against a few rare gems (Pierné Bozza) that are utterly charming.

Composed in 1998; score & separate Flute part included. Beat Furrer was born in Schaffhausen (Switzerland) in 1954 and received his first musical training on piano at the Music School there. After moving to Vienna in 1975 he studied conducting with Otmar Suitner and composition with Roman Haubenstock Ramati at the Hochschule für Musik und Darstellende Kunst. In 1985 he founded the Klangforum Wien which he directed until 1992 and with which he is still associated as conductor. Commissioned by the Vienna State Opera he composed his first opera Die Blinden. Narcissus was premiered in 1994 as part of the Festival ?steirischer herbst? at the Graz Opera. In 1996 hewas composer-in-residence at the Lucerne Festival. His music theatre work BEGEHREN was premiered in Graz in 2001 the opera invocation in Zürich in 2003 and the sound theatre piece FAMA in Donaueschingen in 2005. In autumn 1991 Furrer became a full professor of composition at the Hochschule für Musik und Darstellende Kunst in Graz. He has been guest professor in composition at the Hochschule für Musik und Darstellende Kunst in Frankfurt 2006 2009. In 2004 he was awarded the Music Prize of the City of Vienna and in 2005 became a member of the Academy of Arts in Berlin. He was awarded the Golden Lion at the Venice Biennale in 2006 for his work FAMA. In 2010 his music theatre WÜSTENBUCH was premiered in Basel.
