The King of Love: SATB: Vocal Score

This lilting English folksong is one of a group of great arrangements in the King's Singers' repertoire. Available for SATB divisi a cappella. Performance Time: Approx. 4:00.

Two Human Hymns comprises of settings for six-part choir and organ of two poems by 17th century English poets who are almost exact contemporaries; George Herbert and Henry King.The music for the choir is mostly composedin simple songlike shapes which are little hymns. The texts though clearly relate to Christian beliefs could be more widely applicable to all human experience which is why they have called them 'Human Hymns'.Thus Love BadeMe Welcome (G.Herbert) whilst obviously a Christian allegory can be read as a gently hypnotic love song and it is attempted to capture something of this atmosphere in the setting. Like to the Falling of a Star (H.King) although it mentions no God could be a Calvinist sermon capping its lovely account of the wonders of nature with an almost operatically sinister denouement. In the first half of the piece the music bubbles upwards fresh andoptimistic; in the second half like all those doomed sinners it is going down down down.The first performance was given by University of Aberdeen Chapel Choir on 22nd October 1995. Of the songs most often requested here are twelve which adapt most easily for mixed choirs without losing the flavor of the original King's Singers versions.

This definitive collection showcases twelve of the finest and most loved partsongs by Robert Lucas Pearsall (1795-1856); published in two volumes compiled and introduced by Ralph Allwood one of the UK’s pre-eminent choral directors.These works including the well known Lay a Garland In Dulci Jubilo Great God of Love and No! No! Nigella! are collected and published together for the first time. Suitable for choirs of all abilities the partsongs within this two volume collection are scored for four to eight parts and appropriate for sacred or secular usage. The words of the Wedding Hymn O Perfect Love were written by the English poet Dorothy Frances Gurney (née Blomfield) (1858-1932) to be used with an earlier melody. Sir Joseph Barnby then wrote a tune specifically for the words in 1890. This was popularised when it was used in 1893 at the wedding of the Duke of York and Princess Mary of Tek who would later become King George V and Queen Mary. Sir Joseph Barnby (1838-1896) was an English composer and conductor. He was a chorister at York Minster before studying at the RAM. He later became director of Music at Eton and Principal of the Guildhall School of Music.

Three well-loved Christmas carols arranged for SATB a cappella.The first carol Boar's Head Carol is arranged for mixed voices with brass choir or keyboard. The second and third carols Gaudete and Joy To The World are also arranged for optional brass choir.

The Welsh traditional song Suo G n is here arranged for SATB Chorus and Organ Accompaniment by Stephen Cleobury. Written by an anonymous composer in Welsh it literally means 'Lullaby'. This beautiful arrangement is sure to be a favourite with audiences and choirs alike. It features lyrics in both English and Welsh. This traditional Welsh song has been a favourite within the repertoire for many years after having been first documented by folklorist Robert Bryan. With versions sung by Charlotte Church Katherine Jenkins and the Choir of King's College Cambridge  Suo G n is one of the most recognisable andwell-loved tunes in the Welsh and English repertoire. This new arrangement by Stephen Cleobury will be a welcome addition to any choir's performance with the combination of such a new take on an established classic with simple beautiful music.
