The Ringmaster, by Jon Bubbett, is a spirited, fun-loving march written in the circus style of those composed in the late 1800s and early 1900s. Its happy and carefree energy brings back memories of three-ring circuses, trapeze artists, and clowns. As the Master of Ceremonies, the ringmaster was decked out in a bright red tailcoat trimmed in gold and a black top hat. Their job was to direct the audience's attention to the various rings where the acts took place, sometimes interact with the clowns, and build excitement for the next act. The Ringmaster reminds us of the frenetic energy of the circus, meant for ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls, children of all ages! (2:30).

The creation of the WindWorks label represents an expanded relationship between the North Texas Wind Symphony and GIA Publications. GIA’s generous support and ongoing dedication to wind music has made it possible for the ensemble to continue producing recordings of the highest quality that are a testament to the perseverance and work ethic of everyone involved. While the first 34 releases in the series, initiated in 1989, remain with the Klavier label, this broadened alliance with GIA affords the opportunity to consolidate all of the current projects under one publishing roof. The diverse set of offerings consists of WindWorks (which includes the CD and DVD series), the Composer’s Collection, and the Teaching Music through Performance in Band resource recordings. Partnering in this way creates exciting possibilities that allow the imaginative output to stay focused on the ongoing mission: to provide first-class recordings that accentuate the comprehensiveness, depth, and value of the wind symphony medium and its music. Picture a circus, with creepy clowns, an evil ringmaster, and fierce animals, and you get Dark Shadows by Ryan Meeboer: a fun, yet twisted piece filled with interesting melodies and animated accompaniments. The opening sets the dark tone of the piece through a simple melody played above a drone, accompanied by an interesting use of percussion before moving into the driving, circus style music. (2:45).
