This collection of 41 timeless melodies is tastefully arranged for soprano and tenor recorders with suggested breath marks and accompaniment chords. Selections include a variety of influences which provide a historical and aesthetic view of the American musical landscape. The works of both well-known, classically trained composers and unknown folk artists are featured in standard notation arrangements suitable for performance by intermediate players. The one thing these tunes have in common is their striking melodies, which in many cases have endured throughout the ages.

Appalachian fiddle music, based on the musical traditions of the people who settled in the mountainous regions of the southeastern United States, is widely-known and played throughout North America and parts of Europe because of its complex rhythms, its catchy melodies, and its often-ancient-sounding stylistic qualities. The authors explore the lives and music of 43 of the classic Appalachian fiddlers who were active during the first half of the 20th century. Some of them were recorded commercially in the 1920s, such as Gid Tanner, Fiddlin? John Carson, and Charlie Bowman. Some were recorded by folklorists from the Library of Congress, such as William Stepp, Emmett Lundy, and Marion Reece. Others were recorded informally by family members and visitors, such as John Salyer, Emma Lee Dickerson, and Manco Sneed. All of them played throughout most of their lives and influenced the growth and stylistic elements of fiddle music in their regions. Each fiddler has been given a chapter with a biography, several tune transcriptions, and tune histories. To show the richness of the music, the authors make a special effort to show the musical elements in detail, but also acknowledge that nothing can take the place of listening. Many of the classic recordings used in this book can be found on the web, allowing you to hear and read the music together.

Reunited for a fourth time, the talents of John L. Bell and the voices of Chicago's Cathedral Singers combine to produce a truly remarkable recording of top-notch choral music with Take This Moment! Like much of John Bell's work, Take This Moment sends us soaring around the globe, featuring such pieces as Te Ensalzarÿ, SeËor, a lively, bilingual setting of Psalm 30 commissioned by the Diocese of Austin, Texas. The lovely Easter text of While Earth Remains is set to an exquisite Korean tune, while I Bow My Head in Prayer takes us back to John Bell's homeland with an ancient Scottish-Celtic text set to an even older Celtic melody. Also featured on this recording, making his debut with the Cathedral Singers, is GIA composer and guitarist Stephen Petrunak! The rich, full music in this collection is intended for parish choirs with options of three- or four-part harmony. Take This Moment is simply a glorious collection of choral works that is as enjoyable for the music-loving listener to hear as it is for the musician to perform!

This collection by John L. Bell and the Wild Goose Resource Group is filled with songs of praise and possibility! The recording features singers and instrumentalists rehearsed and conducted by Iain McLarty. McLarty gathered a very talented and eclectic group and worked co-operatively with them on some of the arrangements to produce interesting and engaging sounds.  This Is God’s World is dedicated to Graham Maule (1958-2019). An integral part of the WGRG, Graham oversaw the production of this recording and also sang a solo verse in one of the songs before his passing last December. He is dearly missed by all who knew him and worked with him.  CONTENTS: This Is the Day • All People Living on the Earth • What Is This Place? • In Christ We Live • Long Have You Loved Me • There Is a Balm • Now We Are Nourished • Lord Jesus, I’m Eager to Answer Your Call • The Lord of the Earth • This Is God’s World • God Give Them Peace • We Are Coming, Lord, to the Table • Within the Circle of Your Friends • God and Parent of All People • God Loved the World So Much • Go, Heal the Sick • Murassala • Canticle of the Turning • I Lie Down with God .

This new collection is bookended by beguiling and moderately easy works by two of Britain’s most distinguished composers of light music, Peter Hope and Jim Parker, whose music has been heard by millions of listeners and viewers. Sandwiched between these are several no less attractive concert pieces, including an evocation of the night sky in East Anglia, a gentle meditative view from a college window, and some finger-testing sparklers to entertain and test the virtuoso player’s technique.
